i was driving today and i was letting the car slow down to about 45mph and the dic said service abs followed by service active handling and service traction system. i pulled over, took a look at the car, turned it off and started it back up. when i started it the messages disappeared. i checked my owners manual and it said that the active handling and traction control would flash on the dic if the abs did, then said that if it came back on after reset it would need service. so since they didnt come on, maybe it was just a glitch and i shouldnt have anything to worry about right??? sorry about the long post but im just a little concerned because i will be making a 1200 mile long trip from TX to FL in a week and i dont need any problems.

Depends. Did you have any of the column lock recalls done? If no, that's good. If yes, see if they installed that crappy GM K-harness and if so, remove it. Do you have a CLB installed? If no, get one from C of H and install it prior to FL trip. If yes, restet DIC and continue.
I had this happen about a month ago. I asked the dealer's Vette mechanic and he said if the battery is low (car hasn't been driven in a while) or about to die, it will send lower voltage to the ABS and AH and produce the message.
Since I have been driving the car a lot lately, I have not gotten the message, but I will be on the lookout for a dying battery.

That could be possible. Sometimes the lights dim a little bit when I press the window button, and the dic showed the message right when i put the windows down or press the brake pedal. maybe my doing both simultaneously at that itstant, the voltage was to low? As for the other stuff like the column lock, idk if its had the recalls done before i bought it. I guess i can take it to a dealer and have them check.

probably your ebcm is gone. expensive part. easy install. goes on the antilock brake module. you can drive it. you just won't have antilock brakes or active handling. those things are for sissys anyway.

as far as i can tell i still have abs. i guess ill go out and slam on the brakes and see if it kicks in I just went to the local chevy dealer (i wouldnt trust them to do any work on it) and the service manager said he wouldnt worry about it unless it came back on. i was going to have it scanned but i didnt have the $35 on me they wanted to scan it. also a few months ago i was cutting donuts and the service active handling message came on but it went off and stayed off after i turned the car on and off and havent seen it since.
ok so i just found a post on codes and how to use the dic to check them. i checked them and it had no current codes. just a history code and it said tcs low supply voltage. so im thinking that the abs didnt get enough power when i had the radio on, pressing the brake, and rolling down the windows, etc at the same time and it was just a glitch. it has also rained non stop for over a week so maybe the moisture has something to do with it.

If you had code C1236 Low System Voltage:
Possible causes of this DTC are the following conditions:
A charging system malfunction
An excessive battery draw
A weak battery
A faulty system ground

If it is the EBCM, it can be rebuilt for about $150. Do a search on the site for EBCM rebuild. The guy who does it uses upgraded relays so a rebuilt one should be better than the original.

C1236 was the code it threw. I drove it alot yesterday and still no more problems. I went out in a parking lot and did a hard stop from 30mph and abs kicked in just like its suppose to. So as of now everything is working like its meant to. If i dont have anymore problems with it, I'll probably wait until i get to florida and then take it to a dealership and have them take a look at it. At least its still under warranty if there is a problem.

Sounds like a low battery. I wasn't so lucky on my 02 Z. About 2 weeks after I bought it used, I did my 1st lil burn in it and the DIC lit up like a Xmas tree! It said "Service ABS, Active Handling, Traction Control", luckily I bought a GMPP warranty. A local dealer replaced the EBCM & ABS Module, I had a rental, & I didn't pay a dime except for the gas for the rental.
Same thing happened on my 02 Z06 earlier this year. It only had 9000 miles on it but was 5 years old. Good thing I bought the 6 year extended warranty for $1,200 when it was new because the dealer had to replace the ECBM and the ABS module. The service department said the parts were over $6,000 here in Canada!
