Bad luck, easy fix.
I was taking a friend to work this morning. Cruising on the highway. I tried to downshift for the exit and it was stuck in 6th gear. Wouldn't come out. My first worry was synchro's and tranny rebuild. I was lucky. It was just the tightening nut on my short shifter. It came off so the bolt somehow turned in more and locked me out of the other gears. The nut on the other side was loose. Lucky for me. Easy fix and cheap as hell.
