Like has been said, buy the newest year you can afford. That said, you gotta take mileage into consideration also.
I for one, do not believe in the myth that early production run cars are worse than later cars. I have a '97 with 45K on it and the car looks brand new. Naturally, there are a few issues that need to be taken care of, but that is true with any car. Happy hunting!
