Do they typically come with appropriate mounts, or is that a separate item?

They come with windshield suction cup mounts. There is a company on here that makes a mount that attach's to your sun visor or rear view mirror.

This web site lists windshield suction cups as separate accessories:

http://www.escortradar.com/x50.htm

Not a big deal...windshield suction cups are only $4.00. The cord is gonna look ugly hanging down from it, though, and running to a cig lighter adaptor. I understand there are "invisible" cords available...

Just remember that if it's laser the police have the only help the radar detector is to tell you that you are in for a ticket

I'm not sure that I understand what you mean. The one that I'm looking at has "radar and laser detection". What are you saying about laser?

Its like the oil pressure idiot lite....it should say TOO LATE. If you pick up laser, your goose is cooked. It's over. There are very rare instances of laser bounce which in theory would get you some warning. If you get a laser indication, you best be doing something around the speed limit.

Laser is instant - the same split second your radar detector goes off the officer has the read out on his laser gun It is also pinpoint accurate so there is no reflected parts from the car ahead for the detector to pick up. Where I live the police are 90% laser because detectors are legal. They also don't give any breaks if they see the detector or the clips.

Valentine - came with suction cups and visor mount. Since I switch from my DD to the vette I feel the visor mount (passenger side) to be convenient. Probably use suction cups for longer trips with wife so she can use the visor.

Here's a couple places to research. Also Search "Radar detectors" here there have been numerous threads. Radar and Laser are two different systems and you need two different systems to help avoid them the best is what people here are saying. Good Luck

Radar Roy is up north of you in AZ. Sounds like AZ has a lot of Lazer and uses it in Hwy speed traps for pictures as well.

Why do people feel the need to have a radar detector? If your radar detector is going off that means the beam has already hit your car and then its way too late! Just curious, I don't own one and don't intend to buy one!

If you got the money then the Valentine is the poo. Front side and rear indicator and highly accurate. Has been a guardian angel for me a few times.

that's only true with laser.. with standard radar bands, you get reflection off of other cars and you can pick up the signal well in advance... say like you're approaching a curve and there is a cop with a ka band radar gun on. your detector will go off before you see the cop for the most part and give you time to slow down if you're going too fast.

I have an 8500, but I try to not to speed for the most part, but there are those times when you don't realize that you are going a bit faster than you should, and it's nice to have. I mainly use mine on long trips though.

I had (still do) the PASSPORT 8500 and switched to the V1. Before I used to just say, you don't need any arrows, if the detector goes off, you will slow down, but after having the arrows and making a few road trips, I can't believe I had went years without it. The V1 is the best out there.

BTW, the PASSPORT is awesome in my wife's car.

I have a K-40 with front & rear detectors.....no need for suction cups. Pretty good unit also.
