Ok I've got an 01Z with 41,000miles stock clutch with the new 07Z06 shifter and ****. Here is my issue that just came up today actually
When I'm in first and the clutch is starting to engage, sometimes there will be a slight chatter. Not always but every 4-5 times. I also get it shifting into 3rd or when I downshift into 3rd i will get that chatter. Also, I am starting to miss 3rd every once in a while. either in a downshift or upshift. Thats like every 10 times or so. Whats goin on here? Thanks for any help in advance
I would start with a fluid change on the transmission first and go from there. Depending on your driving style is what willl determine if you need to change it or not but if it is not slipping then look elsewhere.
Before you do anything major, I would pull the return spring. It could be the peddle feel that is causing trouble. If it works then leave it out, mine has been out for over a year. If it doesn't help just put it back in. This should take less than 10 minutes to take out and put back.
ok im starting to narrow it down to syncros. I dont get it in every gear and it doesn't happen all the time. Shifting into 3rd it wont let me sometimes and a split second later it will go into gear. Guess its dealer time Still got the warranty luckily

I would not rule out a clutch problem yet. It could be surfaces that are not bedded in well yet or a warped or glazed flywheel or as was mentioned earlier oil or grease on the surfaces from the installation.
Good luck,
Jeff
What is this about a return spring? Where is it and what do you gain by removing it?
I'll let you know what Kevin at libertyville says Rick.
The return spring is on the clutch pedal. And its supposed to make it easier to push the clutch pedal in. It was one of the recommended aides to help fix a sticky clutch pedal. It helped a little bit when I did it a yr ago, but changing the clutch fluid was a much better fix.
I still haven't ruled out a clutch yet, but as the problem keeps getting worse, i am thinking syncros more and more. one of the symptoms is it makes the same sound when going into gear even before i start to release the clutch pedal. So i don't know if the clutch isnt disengaging all the way or what. But It doesn't smell like clutch unless all the clutch material is gone and thats why you can't smell it
Thanks for the suggestions and ideas guys, but as this problem is getting worse quickly, I have thrown in the towel and am taking it to Kevin before i break down
Kevin is a good guy, he will take good care of it!

If there is anyway the work can be done under warranty, Kevin will take care of you. We are very lucky to have such a meticulous and honest dealer tech in our area. My GMPP has paid for itself 3x over.
well after the test drive they think its "a pilot bearing or the release bearing" I had to authorize them to take the trans out and as of now if the warranty company doesnt cover it, im eating the costs Find out later today what is going on im sure and tomorrow to see if the warranty company will cover it.

ok so far its a pilot bearing and an input shaft. and a BIG ? whether my extended warranty company covers it They are putting an estimate together right now for the warranty company
