that's a big no-can-do

the 97-98 MUST have the passive style FOBs.

yea...it's a big FOB PITA thing, but hey, we're the only models to get the passive option. i bet all those other C5 guys are getting arthritis in their thumbs from pushing their buttons

you need to stay with the same pn FOB for it to work. Gene at gmpartshouse has good prices (at least, as good as they get) on new FOBs...

I'm pretty sure you can use a non-passive fob from a 2000. My 99', which also has passive entry currently only has a fob from a 2000 and it works perfectly.

Use my 2000 fob on my 98 vert every day.

..........another reason I went with the 2000 fob, plus it was less expensive.

Don't know about the less expensive part, but the 2000 will definitely work. The 2001 and up will not program to your car, but they are cheaper by far.

50 bucks on ebay for my 2000 fob as opposed to 85-95 bucks for the 97-99.

So long as the FCC number on the fob is the same, you can use any fob. I have the passive feature on my 98, and anytime you are working on, washing, close to the car, you have to turn the feature off. If you don't, then it keeps unlocking the car. A good feature, but a bad design, as far as that goes.

You got lucky, try to find another. The 98-99 and the 2000 are all around $90 bucks now. You also have to be careful because some of those being sold are because they didn't work right.
