First MOD on My Vette was the CLB! Done in 02' after being "bit" twice by the lock-up. Never had the recall done, and don't plan on it! Haven't had a recent notice from GM, maybe they gave up on sending the notices!!
Well sort of, first of all I tried the CLB on my 98 A4 it caused more problems then it solved.
Then I took it to the dealer and they said it wasn't covered under the recall! (hadn't reached my VIN yet)
So not wanting to let my car set for 2 months I did the recall myself,
All's been well ever since!
You should have clarified if the car was an auto or a stick. Because the recall DOES NOT WORK for the manual. Where as it is supposed to work just fine with an auto.
I had my column harness replaced on my 98 last year. I get the fuel cutoff and remove key when I sometimes leave the key in the ignition while fueling and rentering and restarting vehicle. So far good on the column lock.
It depends on if you have an A4 or MN6 (six speed or auto). It also depends on which recall you had/have done.
The A4 recall they removed the locking plate, problem fixed.
There were several different recalls for the MN6, none of which worked, except for the most recent.
The most recent recall GM is finally removing the locking plate for 6 speed cars, thus solving the issue..where as on previous recalls they reflashed the computer to shut your fuel off if your column locked to cover their azzes, checked the locking pin messed with the wiring harness and sent you on your way with your ticking time bomb.
There have been 10000000000000000000000000 threads and posts about this, and time and time again, the best answer is - get a CLB.

My car ('02 MN6) is completely unmolested..... no recalls, no CLB (yet). Help me out here..... does the most recent GM recall really "solve the issue" as you noted above? Also, it was my understanding that GM dealers still reflash the computer, even on the lastest recall.... am I wrong on this?
thanks,

Let me see if I can find the link to the information about the 6 speed recall...someone posted it here sometime last year. I would still get a CLB regardless, it's 54 bucks and takes about 30minuets to install.
Edit: Here is the link to the thread in C5 Tech here on the forum...read the link from post #246/245, it states the locking plate is removed now from Manual Trans cars in the USA. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...312929&page=13

You are not wrong. The problem is some dealers are reflashing and some are not, there is no consistency. A friend of mine at the local Chevy dealer here says they are told to reflash and remove the locking plate. However I recall another forum member here (Slick Rick I believe) had the his recall done without the reflash.
My personal opinion for your situation is to purchase the CLB and stay clear of the dealer. I installed my CLB about two months after I purchased my 02 Z06 and never had a problem.
Had it done on our 99 coupe 12/04. Had to take it back this week because it started again....Service Column Lock message and car repeatedly shut off after putting in gear. They said the harness they put in burned out and had to be replaced. They tried to charge me for a new on since it was only warranted for one year. Fortunately my extended warranty paid all of it.
Will never take it back again...next time I will try the CBL.

This is correct they only reflashed on the first recall. When I bought my 97 none of the recalls had been done. Therefore alls they did to mine was remove the lock plate and put in the K- harness which has been upgraded to a much better relay. The biggest problem with the early recalls was the k-harness the relay would take a dump. I also have an A-4. And Im guessing looking at the poll beings that it is so close, Is that most of the succesful recalls were A-4s and the ones not so succesful were the mn-6s.........
