ive noticed that my emergency brake doesn't completely lock my back wheels. it just puts enough pressure to keep the car from rolling when im stopped. is this how all vettes are or do i need to go get my brake checked?
If you pull the back wheels, take the calipers off, then you can remove the rotor. The parking brake works like a drum brake on the inside of the rotor. Its set kinda loose from the factory, if you center it in the rotor, you can then tighten it up a good bit, just don't go too far to were it rubs and drags all the time.
Be careful pulling the rear rotors off. Make sure the parking brake is released and that you've removed the parking brake cable tab from the pull on the wheel. Then, if the rotor won't come off easily, try rotating it. Do not try to pull it straight off, and don't force it straight off. You will pop the retainer spring from the parking brake shoe. Ask me how I learned that lesson. It's not the end of the world, but a PITA to put back in without taking the whole hub apart.
The parking brake is not really an "emergency" brake. It's not meant to stop the car. It's only meant to help hold the car in place when stopped. Always put the car in gear to hold it, especially if not on level ground.
