SMOG help!!!
I live in the east bay, northern california, and I need help with smog. If you have ANY year C5 corvette (for the most part stock) please contact me. I need a 'mostly' stock corvette to tell me what the correct read outs are on the smog dyno. I will compensate you for your time and cooperation, thanks. Call me at 510.332.8802 -Tony
My car has the following mods...
98' M6 with 52k mi, Vortech V-2 S-trim blower, A&A ported heads, small cam, KOOKS long tubes (i bet thats the problem), x-pipe, GHL cat back with hi-flo cats. I have no problem with visual. Blower has carb sticker. I need someone that is willing to drive out to fremont, CA with a smog passing vette. Your time WILL BE COMPENSATED. Car needs to go for sale but need to get smog done first.
At the least, just for coming out here I will let you drive my car around just to see what it feels like to have a 700hp vette! Please help, need to get this done soon. Thanks in advance

I hate Californias strict tests. The worst one is the visual test for Longtubes, I think that if they can pass the sniffer test then why should it matter if you are running longtubes or shorties.

Smog tested my Blazer the other day and it failed, the gas cap did not hold fumes long enough. Guy sold me a cap and passed me. Small price to pay this time I guess, next time who knows.

YOU NEED TO HAVE THEM DEMONSTRATE WITH YOUR CAP that it won't pass. Then, before they put on the new cap, HAVE THEM DEMONSTRATE the new cap WILL pass.
This is the easiest $10-20 bucks they make during smog checks.
I can almost bet you the farm that if they tested that cap IN FRONT OF YOU it will pass. Or, if it doesn't, NEITHER WILL THE NEW CAP! (Because they've altered the seal on their machine).
Once, they tested my cap and two new caps (all failed). Then the guy said something like, "Aw, sometimes this machine doesn't work right on the caps. It's too sensitive or something." He then proceeded to put some special cap he had on the machine that would pass and gave me back my original cap to continue to use.
What a joke! All they need do is jimmy the machine's seal with a little shim or something and no cap will pass.
I always make them test the cap in front of me. If it fails have have them test the new cap before installation. If they're screwing around with the test, the new one will fail too!

I hear you, but when I did question it after the fact he said, "It would have failed if I did not do it then" . For a few bucks I just want to hear if PASSED and good for 2 more years. I just don't have time to screw with it. I would cost me more money in time. Maybe next time I will challenge the smog gestapo. I did ask for my old cap, so I may mess with them later. Always ask for your old parts whenever you have work done you can not do.
