We received a call from my son's fiance that she was taking him to the emergency room. Well, later last night they admitted him, and this morning they told us that he has Pancreatitis and his blood suger was 360 when admitted and 12 hours later it only dropped to 280. He is not being allowed to eat or drink and is on an IV. They finally had to put Eric on Morphine because of the pain. They performed a CAT scan with contrast around 11 am this morning and we still have not heard from the Doctor as to the results. Dianne and I at the hospital right now... I am on my sons laptop and the hospital has an awesome wireless system. Please keep Eric, Alyssa, Dianne and myself in your prayers. He is our oldest and this is the first major hospital event in his life.

Unfortunately - the Pancreas is the one that produces insulin to control the sugar in our bodies, this is the natural course of the body to convert the sugar into energy -kinda like the gasoline for a car, if there is abnormality with the pancreas ( i.e - Pancreatitis -where the pancreas is swollen ) it cannot produce enough insulin to breakdown the sugar in our body- thus the high blood sugar. There are a lot of causes for the pancreas to become swollen ( i.e. infection, alcohol abuse, trauma ) The reason it is painful is because since it is swollen, it is basically bigger it's normal size compressing other adjacent organs and putting pressure on those organs thus causing abdominal pain - more locally on the left side of the stomach, but sometimes the pain can more generalized or radiate.
Sorry for the babble- I'm pretty sure everything's been explained to your son's fiancee thus passing down the information to you. But all in all, I hope your son feels better and hope for him to get well soon.

No babble taken.... already been through this with my father... his was caused by gal bladder/stones. Eric is 20 and is a non-drinker. He has noticed a loss of appetite lately, so we are leaning towards a problem with his gall bladder. I will keep everyone posted when we know something from the doctor.
been there 2 yrs. ago , they kept me off food and water for 3 days till it calmed down , then removed my gall bladder , now i'm good . so i know 1st hand the pain he is in .
god bless and my mty prayers are with him . keep us posted
