I would like to remove some of the road noise that the tires produce on certain surfaces without killing all of that great exhust sound. I was thinking about applying some dynamat around the protruding wheel wells.
If you have done this, was that enough or did you have to put the dynamat on the flat floor surface. And if so how far back??
I removed the front seats and then removed all the carpet front and back. The dynamat super was then installed on the floor, console, and rear of the vehicle. Made a very noticeable difference in the road noise. Its a big job and I had fiberglass in my hands for weeks afterward :(
Good luck,
Here is where I purchased my dynamat: http://audio-n-more.com/dynamat.htm
Use the extreme dynamat as the original is a petroleum based product that will cause an unwanted odor.
I used two of the 36 sqft rolls for my car and doubled up on the rear wells.
After all that gm did to get the weight down I am not going to add more than a couple of pounds. I already have the carpet out of the back because of the antenna and will be removing the pas seat to wire in the antenna the V1
I think I will only put the dynamat around the wheel tops maybe this will help when I go over the noisy roads.
Did you do the whole thing at once or did you do a smaller area and then test
I appreciate your responce but I can't see me doing the entire car
Its a weight thing
Brad
The wait is over
I would do all that you would like to do.. I think that all of the dynamat I used added about 100 lbs.. but I also used the dyna liner which is really heavy.. it all depends on what you do with the car....
GM put in two seats so the 100lbs if like having a passenger in the car so power loss should not me an issue I think...??? I dont race and I am not too worried about the weight.... but its up to your preferences....
If you add any sound equipment... I think its a must.... :smash: :smash:
I did the cockpit a month before I did the back of the vette.
If your looking to minimize the work, the back of the vette should take priority. Then cover the tunnel to help with the heat. After that I would cover the doors, the floor pan and behind the seats needs it the least in my opinion.
Dynamat had 3 versions : Original , Super, and Xtreme... now they got rid of Super since it had all the benefits of Xtreme and only saves $10 in the long run .... I have used Xtreme.... its great...
