The Corvette is legendary and is "the" only true American made sports car. Throughout it tenure the Corvette has wow'd the masses and has been able to compete against its top tired rivals.
Another important aspect is cost. How many folks can afford a Ferrari or Lamborghini, I'm certain not many, where as the Corvette is still priced within reach of most American incomes.
Didn't know I asked a question. I just made a statement and asked for comments. As happens to most threads after 10 or 15 posts, it gets way off topic. As I said in my original post, an 8 year old or an 80 year old knows nothing about the Corvette's "heritage" or its cost or that it's even a sports car. They just love it because it looks good.
Most people think its the "new" corvette since not everyone is into cars, and it does get alot of positive remarks.
However, C3's get more head turning action by far. I even test drove a White 79 with a huge rear window slat a few years back, and I thought peoples heads were going to snap off. Would have bought the car if it didn't have so many problems for a car with "only" 30k - and this was at a dealership. I would also like to note, that 79's did not have ample amounts of power or agility - though they look damn cool.
Next 3 cars I'm buying are: Gold 98 WS6, C3 (preferrably white - surprisingly), and a Red 90 ZR1.

I agree with everything in this post, And would just add that we are in a class of car (from a visual standpoint) that stands apart from most cars in high profile styling. Cars from the past that I'll include in this group are the Delage and Delahaye. Two French art deco auto masterpieces from the 30s that had to be a car show wherever they parked.
Last night driving only 10 minutes to see my buddy's band play I had a guy in a Civic tell me, "Man that sounds nasty... don't beat up on me too bad." Then a few minutes later an older gentleman rolled down his window to ask me what year it was and tell me he thought it was beautiful.
Sure are fun cars... allthough I prefer when it's the ladies flashing *****... which happens once every few months too.
C5 is a rolling piece of art. Looks like its moving when its standing still.
Gives me a smile just to look at is, and grin from ear to ear driving it.
Compliments from others is just a bonus.
I've had four C3's, a C4, and a C5. They all had this effect on people. It's a Corvette mang !!!
Thanks Mike, I thought I was going to have to be the first to state that the year really doesn't matter.
I had to wipe the slobber off of my 82 a few times...

Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
