Default loose seat --need help!

Anybody had a problem with a loose seat frame. I took it out of the car and there is a bracket with two small screws in it between the two frames that the seat slides on.
This bracket has some play in it and obviously should not. This is causing the movement in the seat, but i cant get the two frames separated in order two tighten or replace the bracket.
Anybody had this problem?
Thanks for any help.

Default loose seat --need help!

This is a repair that I had saved from an old post. You could do a "search" on "seats" and probably come up with the original and a LOT more. It's a problem we all have, had or are waiting to have !

Fix for C5 Rocking Seat?

The seat "rocked" a good ¼". We unbolted the seat from its bottom track assembly.

The track assembly is constructed with a pair of upper and lower metal formed U channels. The lower channel is bolted to the car floor. The upper channel is bolted to the seat frame. There are 2 screws that attach the lower channel to a "silver" piece that turns on a threaded rod. The rod is bolted to the channel that the seat frame is bolted. This silver piece has the "slack" for rocking movement. First remove these 2 screws on each track. The two track parts are held in place with 5 plastic ***** on each side of track, 3 front, 2 rear.

We used a large screwdriver hammered between the two track pieces to spread them so the ***** could be removed. This is done at each corner of the track assembly.

There are 3 ***** on one end, 2 ***** on the other end. By pulling one part of the track to the end that you want to remove the *****, putting the screwdriver near the *****, you can spread the track parts enough to remove the *****. Do this on both sides of the track on both ends of the seat.

To remove the actual track bottom then, you have to remove the treaded rod itself. To do this, unscrew the large trox screw at the back end of the rod.

Then pull it out as you move the track pieces to separate
We found the treaded black block to be loose in the silver looking piece

The silver piece is bolted to one piece of the track, the treaded rod is bolted to the other track piece. The space in the silver piece allows movement of the seat when track is bolted to floor. We couldn't determine if any piece was missing from the silver piece to allow this gap (Note: Believe a black plastic filler bumper has been destroyed in usage.)

I found some steel washers that would fit in the gap space. The fit is not tight, but with a little slop. I filed the washer(s) to fit into the silver piece.

Filed center hole larger than threaded rod O.D.

Did both sides, then assembled it back together. You have to wiggle the treaded rod inside the track half as you slide the track in place. The other end of the treaded rod has a square hole that the drive spring rod fits into.

Have to use screwdriver again to spread the track pieces to reinstall the plastic *****. The track pieces had punched dimples at both ends that hold the ***** in the track grooves. You have to spread the tracks apart enough to slide the ***** past these dimples. Get the pieces threaded onto the rod at the same location on each side.

I had taken apart a 2000 MY seat and it didn't have any slack in the seat silver piece to threaded rod piece. I can't imagine why the 97 seat had this much or any slack in the silver piece, or if something was missing.

not any more. i had my seat track split in two where the bar is between the two tracks. i figured i had the rockin chair syndome. had the service dept. look at it and it was broken in half. drove it for over a yr before i finally brought it in for repair. if i would have know it was in two i would have been in a little more of a hurry to get it fixed. much better now.

Yes, my 2004 drivers seat is starting to rock a little on take off. Did you price what it would cost for the dealers replacement part, instead of mickey mousing the track?

ptdrummer beat me to it...
That's the write-up my wife and I did... worked for us. Give it a go. Our write-up does not require you to split the seat tracks, and mess with the ball bearings. Have a look at the process, lots of pictures to help you on your way.

1jester... I actually call the original design more mickey mouse that the fix in our write-up. You should see the condition of the crappy rubber bushings that were in there from the factory.
