Default Is Tirerack correct?

Does anyone here have reason to belive that tirerack's spec information is inacurate?
It is time for tires again and I have come across tread width being anywhere from 10.0" to 10.6" all in the same "size" (stock rear).
When I got these last wideovals they seemed noticably narrower than the F1's to look at side by side, yet the stated difference in the specs is 10.0" for the F1SC and 10.1" for the wideovals, this should be slightly less than 1/8". Now the yokahama avs shows 10.6" more than 1/2" difference than the F1SC's.............Is this how "wide" the tire is or how much width is actually touching the ground?
The Mich. Pilot Sport in a 285/40 shows 11.2".............I have avoided considering this size for thought that it was NOT as wide as a 295, but showing a full inch plus wider..????..........can this be correct?

Can someone please educate me here.......

Yea, couldn't get toyo info from same site. I actualy have toyo's on the front (T1S's), if they still made that model I would already have gotten those, they look mean and perform well.........a buddy of mine had those and loved them, he now has the T1R's........I think they just don't look as aggressive.
Right now I'm leaning towards the Goodyear GS-D3's

Different tire manufactures measuer tread width differnlty.

I have two differnt manufactures of 18x335/30 tires

Mich PS 18x335/30 the tread width is 13.1" wide with an over all tire width of 13.5" wide

Hoosier VRL 18x335/30 the tread width is 13.6" wide with an over all tire width of 14.1"

So no, not all tires 'Maked" as the same width are the same width.

compared to the 5 yr old SC's i had when i purchased the Z, the T1R's run circles around them and $700 for a round of rubber, thats hard to beat. what kind of power are you putting to the ground?

only around 380rwhp for now..
I am not opposed to the toyo's would just like to try the GS-D3's because of ratings and now finding out they make it in the 295......great reviews, 10/32 of tread depth, 280 tread wear, good in the rain, and 2lbs lighter than the F1SC's.
Plus I like the aggressive tread design..................My car is sitting still as much as it moves, so I think it should look fast while it sits there. And nothing says mean like a tire that looks a mile wide...........different tread patterns can make a tire appear to be wider.

I know it sounds silly but I want my tires to look good as well as perform good. As I do not "track" my car in any form I am OK with sacrificing a little performance for better looks. Which is why I will not get the PS2's as I do not find them appealing.....very boring looking tire.
I have heard that the regular pilot sports come in a 315 but did not see it as a choice with tirerack or anywhere else I've looked.
I would like to go wider, just concerned about the rash they will leave on the rear fenders............plus price is a consideration...........right now the GS-D3's seem to fit the bill.

I haven't looked at the site myself for the tires - but were those measurements for section width or tread width? I can see there being quite a difference in the tread width, but section width should be pretty static for a certain tire size regardless of the manufacturer...

WOT, but I remember when i was buying tires at Just Tires and the sales person starts selling me tire tread design....In my head I was more like, "WTF!, I want performance, not beauty."

This just came in mind when you mentioned aggressive tread design.

I know for a fact that given the same size tire different manufacturers make tires with different tread widths. My BFG Comp T/A's on my C4 Z51 were a full inch wider than my Bridgestone RE750's (both sized 275-40-17). The BFG's looked much wider. What does make it difficult is that the tread design might be a round shoulder design or a square shoulder design and the round shoulder is harder to measure.

In any case the Wide Oval should be called the Narrow Oval as it looks a full size smaller than my Super Car tires given the same size. Even if the SC was not a totally superior tire I would buy it for looks. The WO and other narrow for their size tires just look whimpy from the rear view of our Z06's.

I had them put on the car at 38k and im at 48k now with roughly 2/3 tread left on the rear and the front looks to be almost new. They have seen no track time and my driving style is one of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

They have a very similar tread design, but IMO don't see the added value in the GYs.
T1R $192 295/35/18

GS-D3 $277 295/35/18

I'm not trying to be a tire salesman here nor do I have any stock in toyo but I couldn't be happier with them.

True they look very similar.........I just know the T1-R's in person did not look as aggressive as the T1-S's did................this may still be an option................especialy considering price. Where did you get your's from, my buddy got his localy and paid 950 installed for all 4.

My '03 Z had T1-S's installed when I bought it 2 years ago. They are great performing tires. I have used them on the track and on the street, and even under track conditions, they are very predictable, hold well, and even do well in the wet. I've been pretty hard on them, and they are holding up well. When they are ready to go, I'll seriously consider another pair before switching brands or models.

Problem is they no longer make the T1-S's
