Default New Run Flats - Firehawks

Just replaced the Goodyear's with these Firestone Firehawk Run Flats. They seem like a great tire, quiet and handles well! If these hold up, I'd re-buy them in an instant. Good-by Run-craps!

How's the ride and handing vs GY EMT?

I've been considering the same change. Are they as noisy as the OEM runflats?

I am now on my second set of FireHawks (60K+ on the car)
Replaced the GY OEMs at 22K and have never looked back. The Firehawks are significantly quieter and I believe they last longer as long as you are not driving too agressively on them

My 99 is my daily driver and I will probably stay with the Firehawks as long as I have the car

I hear these are good tires, BUT they are almost 2 inches narrower than the Goodyear Runflats ! To me they look like Volkswagon tires on a C5.

Here are the widths from Tire Rack:
The OEM Goodyear runflats are EXTREMELY WIDE for their size. The tread width is even wider than the 295 Z06 tires, here are the specs (tread width)
-Goodyear F1 GS EMT (275) 10.3 inches
-Goodyear Z06 (295) 10.2 inches
-Firestone (275) 8.6 inches
-Goodyear F1 GS D3 (275) 9.4 inches
-Goodyear F1 GS-2 EMT (285, 19 inch diameter) 9.2 inches

If I may ask, what did you pay for the Firestones?

I got my last set from Tire Rack. The tire dealer I had them shipped to for install could not touch their price but they still did a stand up job on the install. They were not the cheapest to do the install but I would rather pay a few bucks more to have someone do it right the first time

Yes the tread patch is narrower. That is because the GY's have very square sidewalls.
The Firestones are much quieter and handle perform better despite the narrower tread width.
I transitioned from the stock GY runcraps to Firestone SZ50's to GoodYear GS-D3's. Although the Firestones runflats were a remarkable upgrade to the runcraps, the GY GS D3's are yet again another league.

Love the good years, they are loud, headers and exhaust fix that. Don't think the firehawks corner as well, they will kick on the tcs easier. Have Kuhmo's now and love them, can't beat the price.

Congrats on the Firehawks.
They may be quieter than the GY EMT's but they definately will not out corner them. The GY's may be a bit louder but then my exhaust takes care of that.

Boy, you dug up an old thread! Might have been better to start a new one, rather than this Firehawk discussion..

I agree. A 7 year old thread is up there in age - heck, they don't make the GS-D3s anymore.
