Has anyone put in the 373 ring and pinion set in? Do the gears make noise? Is the ring and pinion set just as good as a new 373 differential?
Marty, have you talked to Kerry (Jamison) about your question. I asked him that question about a year or so ago and it can be done and as Nouman states above, if done right you are fine, but if done wrong you are screwed and out more money than it's worth. Personally going the extra step and spending a little extra money is the way I would do it, but that is just me. BTW, if you do it and need someone to tune it let me know, there is a guy in my command (LT in the Navy) that has been tuning for free (you pay for the certificates to HP tuner - $100-$200) and does a GREAT job and I can get you two together for some tuning. (A tip for his help would be .)
If this were a POLL I would vote - DIFF with 3:73 vice the ring and pinion.
I've changed mine twice in my diff now. You can put whatever ratio (made for the C5/C6) you want in there. Yes, it is the ring and pinion. Now if you have a 2.73 carrier now you will either need to get a later series carrier or go through DTE for the work. It is a lot cheaper than buying a new rear end for sure, however, you do need to find someone who knows the Getrag diffs cuz they are a different animal. It is not really a DIY like a Ford rear end.

Micah
Thanks for the info Micah. I had Mike from Columbia Corvette tune my car and he will retune it fro free as long as I have it.
I think I will just get the differential.

I have the 315 right now. What kind of mpg would I get with the 373?
I'm strongly considering doing the ring and pinion swap rather than the entire differential as I have the 3.15s now. Thinking about 3.90-4.10. Where would I be able to find the ring and pinion for a C5 (2000) and roughly how much should I expect it to cost? Thanks in advance.
Can you please explain the differences with other gears? Is it a higher top end? Or accelleration at lower speeds?
The higher the ratio the more snappy it will be off the line. Do you lose top end speed? Well, yea, but instead of doing 175 mph you will be drastically dropped to about 165.
