Moved my large butt over the seat to get out and the controls for the seat pulled out. Shoved it back into place but can see where this is going to happen often. Anyone have any solutions for getting out with the top up that doesn't involve sliding over the seat edge?

You probably have a couple of things going on here. If your car is 4 years old (or more), the seat foam is breaking down. As a result, when you get out of the car, you put weight on the plastic piece that holds the controls. The plastic piece is probably broken, or the barbs on the pegs going into the seat are stripped. The plastic piece is available from most of the aftermarket suppliers (ecklers, etc). I just replaced both the seat foam and the control housing on my '99. Pretty easy. not terribly expensive.
Well the car is a 2004 but only 10,000 miles on it. I am 69 and find it hard getting out when the top is up. 230 lbs so don't think that is excessive. Didn't know the splined shaft was suppose to have catches on it. Now I understand. Thanks.
