Yea you cant really practice launches unless your at the track. You are also going to have to adjust your launch technique to fit the track. Tracks are not prepped the same day in and day out. A good time is going to come from practice and the ability to make adjustments to your track.

The Z51 actually hurts; soft suspension is where it's at for the drags. Some guys actually unhook the sway bars for better weight transfer. My '00 FRC has gone a best of 13.08 @ 109 w/ intake and cat-back. I'm not much of a drag racer, and that was on (IIRC) my eighth run of my lifetime. Also, I'm scurred to launch at more than 3K.

Edit: BTW- we all have 3.42s stock.

I would not bet on the 12s at all with just an airbox and catback. 13.1 to 13.4 would be about right. Good luck and just remember relax have fun and learn from your runs down the track.

Thanks all. I will post my times on the 28th. Needless to say, I am a little nervous but really don't have a reason to be. I am only competing with myself.

If you get out of the hole good, 13.1 to 13.3 is a good time.

I have a coupe mn6.

Any other "tips" would be helpful. I am shooting for mid 12s with just catbacks and Blackwing. Any chance of that if I have a good start?
I'd suggest reading through the pages linked in my signature.

A good set of objectives for the first time at the track is (1) no wall incidents, (2) no missed shifts, and (3) mid-13s.

Accomplish all three, twill be a fine day.

Can you get higher octane at the track??
I would run 93 just so you get an idea how fast the car is on the street. Whats the point of putting fule additives and going faster on the 1/4 if its not goin to be the same everyday. Thats my personal thing

Going on Wed the 27th. I will post on Thursday unless it rains. My biggest concern is launching the mn6.

Cool, and g/l again. Just relax and have a good time. It's a bit tense the first time you pull up to stage, but NBD. I'm sure you've read Ranger's stuff by now () so just remember to let off if you get wheel hop and you shouldn't hurt you car.

i hope you guys aren't falling for the fuel additive bull crap. the stuff doesn't work. in fact, octane booster can really hurt your performance. it just makes the fuel harder to burn. DON"T PUT IT IN YOUR STOCK CAR.

also, do your burnout in second gear. by that i mean start it in second gear.

Good luck! Remember, just have fun! In my experiences I would say just let the launch happen, don't force it. I have yet to better my 60' time when I am 100% focused on doing it. Probably just means I don't have it down all the way but practice makes perfect!

This is what i did with 317 hp @ the wheels on my 3rd time ever at the track with runflats, 315 rear and spinning for a few feet. So with your 342 gear and blackwing , if you dont spin much or come out of it ill say youll hit a low 13 or just maybe a highhhhhhh 12,
Good luck and let us know...

Well guys..the weather did not cooperate. Didn't get to make my first run yet. Looks like it will be on the 18th of July. They only run amateurs on Wed and next Wed is the 4th of July so I'll have to wait!
Thanks for all the advice!!

I have a coupe mn6 .

My question is, will I get better times with the roof on (extra weight) or off (lighter but worse aero dynamics) ?

Any other "tips" would be helpful. I am shooting for mid 12s with just catbacks and Blackwing. Any chance of that if I have a good start?

I don't think that your track will let you run without the top on. All the tracks that I have been to won't. Also, vert's must have the top up. I think that mid 12's is reaching a bit. If you can get a decent launch you should run low 13's all day. I would also suggest practicing launching your car and your shift points before you go. Also go to the track when it's cool out, your car will make more power. With a great launch, good shifts, a really good track and some cool weather you just might hit high 12's.

One more thing - pay no mind to the guy in the other lane. Concentrate only on what you are doing.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the pointers. I am planning on going on July 11th weather permitting. I will post my times on the 12th.
