Rotors
I installed a set of AC Delco Rotors and now I'm getting rust on then.
My question is if I were to paint them with high heat paint would it matter if I painted the whole rotor and had the pads remove the paint where they ride.
Logically doesn't seem like a good idea but I don't know if it is something that someone here has done.
Just tape them off with painters tape and paint around the firepath.
If you DID paint everything, a couple of quick stops would vaporize any paint on the firepath anyway. But those couple of stops may be a little squirrelly before its worn off... or perfectly fine... never tried it. Just do it on a deserted road

Thanks. I'll tape off as much as I can and have the pads do the rest. They don't make round tape that and I suck at taping. That's why I have my house painted.
I made the same mistake and even spent hours upon hours of prepping...still got rust. Ready every post on here on prepping and started my own thread. Nothing could save those pieces of junk from rusting. looking for a quality replacement now. No way i am going through that ever again. biggest waste of time and money on the car so far.
your car, your time, you money - but 6 months from now you will be ticked off you wasted the time.
As for painting the 'stopping' part of the rotor, go for it. Like the poster above said, just be careful on those first couple of stops until you burn off that paint.

Fortunately it’s just a rust film and not pitted. I put them on about two weeks ago then I got sick. The rust came from washing the car and not environmental. Maybe it’s not too late to paint?

Are you talking about prepping and painting over the annoying rust ring? I too wondered if you could just paint the entire area w/o taping it off and letting the pads do all the work? I got caught in the rain a couple of times and wa la...rust!!!

Yup, that rust ring! How long ago did you paint them and how many coats? Maybe I'll just bite the bullet and take these off and by the big brake set. I have these wheels http://www.westcoastcorvette.com/p-1...e-package.aspx and soon to be rusty brakes. Not a good combo.

You can paint then entire rotor, and let the brakes eat it away. Not the most recommended, and make sure all the paint is worn off before you really need your brakes.
However, for you, it's even easier, since you have the firepath marked by the pads. Just mask off slightly inboard of that area. Then paint.
When I replaced mine (last weekend), I had the rotors dipped in zinc first to prevent any rusting.
Check out Sportbrakes.com. I had them installed last year...zinc coated rotors and pads, front & rear (drilled & slotted) for about $450. I really like their performance too. stop on a dime.

When I bought them I ask if they were zinc or not and I was told that they were and now I stuck with them. Sucks huh?
I have the stock rotors on my car and also had the rust. I took a Permanent marker (magic marker), whatever you want to call it, and went around the rotor with it several times. No more rust. I did not prep anything, just marked over the rust.

I just emailed WCC to see if they would take them back (since I only have less than 100 miles on them) and trade them for something better.
I'll keep you posted.
Mine were painted last year, I think. Bought the Vette in January and it was already done by prior owner. I thought mine were zinc coated too...but, apparently not! I plan to remove my CCWs for a thorough cleaning soon and will address the rust issue then. A permanent marker sounds simple to use??
I was lookin at the paintable hub covers at ecklers. Will probably get them at Carlisle with the show specials.I too was told the ac delco rotors were zinc coated but you know the rest.
A buddy of mine gave me his AC Delco drilled & slotted rotors because they started to rust. I sprayed them with brake cleaner and used a wire brush to clean them.
Then I spray painted the entire rotor with high temp silver paint (3 coats). The pads took care of the paint after a while, and they look great.

WCC emailed back.
It looks like painting them is the way to go because (as they said) except for the Bear which has an aluminum hat over them they all show signs of rust.
I had better do mine this weekend. DAMN! And I wanted to play this weekend too.
So how can they stay car show shinny?

I disagree that all rotors show signs of rust....
These are Sportbrakes
Second season, over 15K miles on them. the Vert is a DD driven rain or shine...
