When I bought my 99 FRC it had the Cassette stereo in it. The owner also had a CD unit he ordered years ago but never installed he gave me. It was used but was checked out and sealed in vacuum bag and still in the box when he gave it to me. When I installed the stereo everything appeared to work but there was no sound out of the speakers. Was I missing something, is the cassette system so basic it doesn't have the correct wires? The back of the Cassette unit has one plug in which matches a corresponding plug on the CD unit but the CD unit has another plug in it also that I didn't use as I had no matching harness on the car.

Is the CD player unit new or used?? Could be a bad unit if its used or in a rare case even if its new! But I would think it should work fine...
It is used but was bought from a reputable vendor on here and was checked out ahead of time but it coulf very well be bad. I will swap it out with the unit in my TransAm next and see if it works in there as they appear to be the same.
I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some strange difference with the wiring on the base systems. I am a talk radio guy anyway so its not like I am really missing anything .

A vette factory radio should definitely swap in. I'm not sure the TA swap will work either. I'm fairly certain that the vette head unit is line-level outputs while the TA unit output is speaker-level (amplified). I may be wrong, though.
You might want to try posting your problem in the audio section. Good luck.

Couple key pieces of info missing. Is it OEM AC DELCO or another brand? Are both the old and new units BOSE? If the old one is and the new one isn't(and vice-versa), then you will get no sound. BOSE speakers have to have BOSE head units(or the adapters as another stated here) or they won't work.

All factory and non Bose (both units and speakers), I would have stated that if they were .

Plug the cassette back in, if you have sound, then you know the CD unit is defective. BOTH stock, BOTH non-Bose, it should just be a plug and go. Hope you get it right soon. Cruisin' around without tunes? Unless of course you have a sweet exhaust, then it's just a matter of keeping the RPM's up to make your own music.

You know you are so right, in my TA or the GTO I never even turn the radio on, I love the sound of the car. I can honestly say that the radio in my TA has been on less than 10hrs and I have had the car since 99.
I did put the Cassette back in and its working fine so I am not real worried about it, as I said I am a talk radio/XM guy.
As for the CD-Cassette being old school, I don't even think I own one of either, my wife does though .
