Bought a Salvage Title US Export
If you did a HPI are they not responsable as the car is a write off or catagory whatever the equivilent is in the UK?
Is the car you bought the ZO6 Le Mans one with the silver hood stripes?
No its the Z15 Le Mans, the standard coupe not a Z06. It has the Z06 alloys on, but no stripes and is a targa top.
The seller just phoned and offered me £2000 to keep it, but it has still got to go. We still stand to lose a grand (GBP) each if he takes it back because the guy who has taken his deposit won't give it back - 'that is business', apparently
I doubt HPI are responsible for imports, the HPI check only covers its time in the UK. I can't believe in this day and age that they cannot cross-reference US records. Oh how I wish I knew that a week ago

I'd be very worried that more may surface.
I own my car in UK and my son has a Camaro and they still take a good deal of effort to keep running.
He said he knew about the salvage title, and so did the owner in Southhampton but it was only minor damage to one wing
I know this is all easy in hind sight but surely an offence has been commited by the person who first registered the car in the UK without declaring a salvage title.

I'm not sure of the legality of it all, I know an importer off the Supra boards well so i'll ask him about it.

The GM computer came back as 'branded title' and said it the warranty was voided as it was 'junk'. Pretty conclusive.
I still don't know exactly why it was given the title, but I know enough to not want it.

I've been around wrecked cars my whole life. My father does it for a living, building wrecked cars. He discloses all repairs and pictures to the person of the damage and is outright with them off the bat. MY SUGGESTION is to get it in the air and have it checked out. Look for any welding or sectioning of the frame, or repairs of the fiberglass tub in back or up front. If the panels line up pretty good you may not have MUCH damage actually done to the frame. If that's the case i'd not worry all that much about it. It's not true that the car has to be over a certain percentage all the time. If somebody has a car that "CAN" be fixed but refuses because of loss of value and other complaints the insurance company will total it. If it is Stolen in most states it will be totalled if original owner refuses to take it back. This happens alot. The title may have been totalled in another state but SOLD in PA as a salvage because it got moved. Therefore it may have been stolen in, lets say MN, and shipped to PA and titled there because of auction. So the titling of a Stolen car would still show up in another state even if that state doesn't consider theft a reason for a totaled car. If there is no noticeable frame damage and you end up stuck with it, take it to a shop and have them allign the panels up and look it over. It sucks but sometimes you get stuck being screwed
That's the best i can do on that. I don't usually buy salvage titles but i'm not affraid to if i know what work was done and some history. I've only bought one car that was wrecked from my dad and owned it for 2 years with no problems. Good friend of mine bought it off me and drove it for 4-5 years with NO problems. It's not always the end of the world but you shouldn't have had to pay that much for a salvage title. The reason most people buy wrecked cars is because they get a newer, low mile car for MUCH cheaper.
