First make sure the air is coming out your front vents, not the defrost or floor vents. This can be a problem with the vacuum line under battery getting a hole in it. Also make sure the cool air is coming out of both sides, if not your door may need reseting by pulling the 27 fuse. Adding freon is very simple now days and fixes most problems. Go to any auto parts store, you can buy one with hose attached - read directions on back, some you hod upright and some you hold upside down. Also, widow tinting helps a lot -
Hey,
My air is blowing out the bottom vents and the defroster, but none is coming out of the Front vents. What does this mean? And how can I fix it..? I'm burning the hell - up !!! I just added some freon, and its cool on the floor, but i'm cooking like barbecue catfish on a grill in hell !!!!

The vacuum lines are not typical rubber lines. There hard black plastic (nylon) tubes and there run inside the wiring harnesses. Your going to need to follow the line into the harness from the back of the manifold and if necessary, cut open the bundle of wires if you don't have vacuum at the other end.
Here are some Pict's of vacuum lines. The vacuum source starts at the back of the intake manifold at the MAP sensor.
The line with the 90 Deg boot is the main vacuum line that connect to the vacuum reservoir.
i had every intention to mess with it some this weekend but as always i ended up sleeping till 2 and waking up with a nice little dehydration headache and i was too busy flush mounting my taillights, which turned out awesome by the way... but back to the point, i just had time to briefly look at the ac system under the hood.. i found the service point and bought some 134a so all i need to do is check the psi and make sure it needs servicing.. the main problem seems to be the volume of air.. and it does come out of the defrost and foot areas someme while in the front vent mode... so i guess i have alot of checking to do.. do i need to remove the battery to gain access to the vacuum line? and as far as inspecting the condenser, whats the best way to do so? thanks guys! yall are a big help
I have a 91 with 94 engine with the same problem. The air is cold because I put a shot of freon in, but it only blows out the bottom and defroster. I'm curious to know what is that fixed yours. When you find the answer, let me know..
hey guys... today i spent a while trying to diagnose my a/c issues.. all the posts you guys left helped alot and i found the vacuum check valve and vacuum line under the battery compartment which seem to be a problem quite often.. well when i cut my wire bundle it was obvious to me that previously a splice was made on the vacuum line and i couldnt find any other areas on the line that were damaged... i did notice battery acid corrosion when i removed the battery and battery tray, and i poured a solution of baking soda/water to nutruelize the corrosion and rinsed it good with water.. i found the reservoir and looked at the check valve and also didnt find any evidence of malfunction so i'm kinda at a standstill so i figured it would be best to see if you guys could direct me further.. basically without tearing down my body panels more i couldnt find anything that couldve caused my issues.. is there any tests i could run to find out if i'm getting proper suction? oh yea and my freon level is at about 45 psi with the engine running and a/c on full.. and as far as inspecting the evaporater, i dont have any service manuals and finding it is easier said than done i work on military aircraft for a living and believe it or not but working on a corvette is much different, not necessarily more difficult... i'm just not adjusted.. but thanks to you guys i'm learning!
The proper delivery of air is fixed by the vacuum lines functioning while using the system. A new check valve is $3.48 at Advance in the "HELP" section and is the same valve GM charges you $6 + for.
I improved my a/c greatly by adding ONE CAN OF FREON. The system takes only about 3 cans in total so if it is blowing out tepid air adding one can might do the trick. Got new R134 guages at Harbor Freight for about $39. Good luck ... BIGHANK
Go to an autoparts store and buy a pocket thermometer that a/c guys use. It is like a thin pencil with a 3/4" round dial on the top. Put the end of it in your a/c vent and look for 55 degrees coming out of there. Certainly, if the ambient temp is 100, then you will want to do this when car is not 210 degrees.
If less than 55, you are likely low on freon.
The best most a/c systems will do is cool down 20 deg. below the ambient outside air temp. They will also remove most humidity so it will feel cooler than that on a 100 deg. day.
umm .. I use my '98 black on black C-5 coupe with 106k miles on it as daily driver here in Phoenix.
A/C will freeze me outta the car after about a mile of street use if I set it colder than 75 degrees.. outside temps are runnin 116 or so average for the last few weeks, and its gettin hotter.
(and no.. I dont live down by Sky Harbor where the news bubbleheads get their temps from .. I live right across from a Wal Mart concret-o-porium and the temp gauge in my driveway always reads about 10 degrees hotter than the news says it is.. verified by outside temp indicator in the C-5 and in the Durango when we drove that
I joke with the wife about comin out to find a black puddle in the driveway in August ..that car gets HOT in the sun
I am *very* pleased that the A/C works ..it was blowin on high fan settings and not much cool air comin out a few weeks ago, mechanic checked the system out and it was low on freon is all. He said I should replace the compressor as it may be where leak is .. I may do that before next summer .. dunno
I've been reading the posts for a/c problems and have a couple of problems of my own. When I start up the a/c warm air comes out of the drivers side vents and cold air out the passenger side. It will eventually cool off somewhat but not ever what the passenger side is?
I also have a small amount of air coming out the defroster, because it frosts the windshield. Do I have a vacuum leak?
Besides checking the refrigerant, make sure the condenser fins aren't clogged up. If the air can't flow through the fins efficiently, it won't cool efficiently.

Thanks.
As for the temp differences, have the AC compressor pressures checked and add r-134 if needed. You can try to pull the HVAC fuses to reset the controller and recalibrate the doors.
As for the defroster air leak,,,it normal but,,,its enough to **** off the Pope!!! Every C5 i have had, has leaked or passed a little air through that vent!
If you had a vacuum leak ALL THE AIR comes out there all the time.

From: PHOENIX, AZ Yes, it's true. You are a good woman. Then again, you may be the Antichrist.

I had the same problem....warm air on driver's side, cool on passenger. Had the system evacuated and recharged today and the driver's side is cool again.
