97 to 99 have the ugly wagon wheels..You can put the newer polished thin spokes from the 00 to 04 models to make it look nicer..That's what I did on my 99..The 01's burn oil so stay away from them..Run the VIN on the 98 your looking at and see if it's had this work done: column lock, gas gauge, leaky rear..They can be big ticket repairs..My 99 had all this done by the previous owner under warranty..Good luck..

I love my 98. She's been a real honey. But there are a couple of differences that, IMO, you should know about. I don't think they're major but you might.

1) No HUD (can be retrofitted)
2) No Active Handling
3) Ugly Wagon Wheels (SHOULD be retrofitted)
4) The kits to fix the infamous "column lock" are unpredictable when installed on a 97/98.
5) You just have to pay attention when you get under hood accessories. 97/98 have two fuel lines instead of one and it makes a difference.

By the way...not all 01s had an oil burning problem. That is very misleading.

As you can see, the largest number of changes occured for the 2001 model year. According to the auto mags, the steering and active handling improvements for 2001 were significant. In fact, a comparison of the 01 C5 vert, the Porsche Boxster S, Mercedes, AMG SLK, and the BMW M roadster, showed that the 01 C5 ruled the roost, beating all others. The testing editors commented that the improvements in 01 pushed the C5 to the top.

Can you tell I'm a bit biased?

KBB posted values are only rough estimates. From the KBB website: "Actual valuations will vary based upon market conditions, specifications, vehicle condition or other particular circumstances pertinent to this particular vehicle or the transaction or the parties to the transaction. "

Paid 12,500 for stock 98 w/109k. Looked at quite a few 97-2000 from 15,000 up to 21,000. All were stock though.

I am aware of that but the price given is close to the value of this car based on others I've seen on cars.com etc.

Once again, correcting a couple of inaccuracies that keep getting posted as gospel.

Don't know about other years.

" The two slots of a 1998 (and possibly late 1997s) curve toward the rear at the bottom. (versus straight down)"

I keep seeing this statement in different places. Can anyone explain just what, two slots, it is referring to?

Don,

I think you just might have hit the nail on the head! Those fuel line slots in the '97 & '98 do curve back at the bottom. I've been trying to figure out what slots were being referred to, for a good while now. (obviously got a lot of time on my hands ) I guess I just wasn't seeing the big (or small) picture.
