Default C5 Targa Top Panel Bag ?

Does anyone have any suggestions on the Targa Top Panel Bags? Are they worth purchasing to protect the glass top when they are off? It seems that they all can be stored in the trunk while in the bag. Are they cumbersome to put in the bag? I have also seen one at Eckler's that just slips over the targa top after it's mounted in the trunk (not really a bag though, more like a cover called a top shield by Ferguson Designs, seems easier to put on than trying to put the top in the bag). I'm trying to decide wether or not they are worth the $50 ($88 for the top shield). My friend who's had numerous vettes says that I don't need one. Any comments or suggestions, especially if you have one (bag and/or the shield), would be appreciated. Thanks.

I bought two,,,, one never came out of the plastic bag ,,, although I have both tops ...

transparent top goes in the bag and under the bed at the beginning of summer except for special events,,,,,, otherwise stays there.

i never bag the top in the car,,, and even if you have a garage, it shouldnt,, stay off,,, since dust was getting in my car in the garage with the top off,,,

in any event,,, the bag is just to keep it safe and cat hair free when its stored under the bed

I bought one for my C4 when I had it. I ended up not using it, when I did and the sun hit it, you couldn't take it out of the bag, because it was too hot to handle.

If you are like RN and you want to store it and have it protected that works, but just to have it in your car, a nice blanket or C5 LOGO something over it would work fine.

Thanks for the reply...I only got the glass top when I bought the car, so I don't plan on storing it (seems like when you buy a used vette, you only get one top, missing cargo net nuts, and the usual missing pieces). I just wanted something to protect the top while in the trunk. I guess I'll keep a soft blanket in the trunk and just cover up the top with it...besides, it's a lot easier and faster.

I had the tinted top on my 04 Spiral Gray and when stored in the back with the cargo cover installed, wind turbulance caused the cargo cover to rub and scratch the lexon. Had to have two tops replaced by warranty. The scratches cannot be buffed out. Always keep the top in a bag now. Not sure what would happen to the painted top just don't want to take the chance.....

I'd say it's worth it if you're traveling and need to carry something in the cargo space. The factory setup really cuts up the cargo area, and turns a large useful space into a rather useless mess. You can put the cover on the top and then rest it around/over/under your baggage, etc. Just make sure you arrange things so it won't go flying and hit you if you have to stop hard.

Like mengnr I swap my tops with the season. I hang my spare (covered) on my garage wall. If you top's not in use I think it's silly to leave it uncovered and vulnerable, just my opinion.

Took the car on a road trip shortly after I got it. One day was absolutely gorgeous and wanted to take the top off but the back was full of luggage and other stuff that would have scratched the top for sure.

Bought a bag as soon as I got home and keep it in the car all the time. You never know when you may want the top off and what might be in the way under the hatch back.

Good investment - the acrylic tops scratch real easy.

Sorry to hear that you only got one top with your car. I guess I was lucky when I got mine. I bought mine used and got both tops. I hardly ever use the glass top because I prefer the look of the car with the painted top. I bought a bag with handles so that I could hang the top in the garage.
