I was driving the Z over the weekend, and as usual taking it easy until the engine was warmed up. The air temp was chilly, and it was taking just a little longer to heat up. Anyway, for the first time ever, I noticed a message that popped up on the readout that said "WARMUP COMPLETE." I believe the oil temp was about 140 something when this message appeared.
Has anyone else ever seen this? Why is this the first time I've seen this? Does it only occur when the outside air temp is chilly?
Shortly before you got that message, your DIC probably displayed "Active Handling Warming up". I've seen this pair of messages on a few occasions, and can't for the life of me tell you under what circumstances it appears .. it is a normal message, however, and nothing to be concerned about.
Now there's a great combination: '02 Z06 and a place to drive it! Keep us up to date...
I've seen the Warmup and Warmup Complete messages in the following situation. Cool mornings when I'm driving slow (<10mph) out of my lot, I get the TC/AH warming up message. It appears after about 30 seconds of this very slow driving. The warmup complete message appears as soon as I go faster than 10mph, same as the auto door locks. I think this sequence is normal.
My experience has been quite different. It happens each time I think I'll do my first auto-x run in competetive mode, just to get a feel for the track. I start the car, turn on competetive mode and make a smooth run, never noticing TC kicking in, only to finish and get a beep and message saying active handling warmup complete. Actually, it also has happened when, like a bonehead, I forget to turn off the TC after starting the car. Oddly enough, its always at the end of the run.
The "warm up complete" message indicates that the active handling system has been calibrated and is now on. The active handling system must recalibrate itself everytime the car is turned off. It calibrates only when the car exceeds a set mph (i.e. 25 mph) and the steering wheel is held steady for a few seconds. The system then assumes that the car is being driven straight and calibrates the steering sensor.
Therefore, active handling is useless on an autocross course because it never gets a chance to calibrate itself until you hold the steering wheel steady, after exceeding 25 mph, which usually means that you just finished a run. Most people then park their cars in grid and turn off their car until it is time for their next run.
You can find this information in the manual just like I did.
I learned this very early on with my 99. I autocross alot and it was very disconcerting to see "warm up complete" after I just completed a blistering run!
