Default Heated Mirrors question

My window sticker says my 97' came with heated side mirrors. How do i tell if they are still functional?

Default Heated Mirrors

Why don't you have the engine at idle and then turn on the heated mirror feature and see if you can hear a change in the alternator, such as a whine from the additional electrical load? You could also have the motor idling, turn on the headlights and then activate the heated mirrors and see if the headlights dim when you start to heat the mirrors?

I don't have heated mirrors on my convertible so I wouldn't even know where the button is located?

The switch is connected to the rear defroster switch. I have that on my 03 -never really notice it in the winter, but I guess that's probably why my side mirror seemed always clear even when it's snowing but then again I never drive it on a snowy day- just dry clean winter days!.

When I purchased an extended warranty though Warranty Direct, the inspector that came out to look my car over had some kind of digital thermometer that he used to check whether the rear defroster was working. I guess if you could find one of those, you could check the mirrors too. Or just wait until you get some frost on the rear window and outside mirrors and turn the rear defroster on.

Oh I see. It's not really a big deal but I have seen it on my window sticker and always wondered if it worked or not. There isn't any info that I could find here about heated mirrors.

Oh well, nothing to interesting.

Thanks for the replies.

I think that the heated mirrors turn on when you use the front defrost button, not the rear.

According to my Factory Service Manual on Page 8-1101 the diagnostic procedure directs the user to turn ON the REAR DEFOGGER. The mirror should heat for approximately 10 minutes.

I also believe that heated mirrors were standard equipment on all C5's on both sides.

I haven't just heard it I know it. Since I live in the Northeast and drive my car year round I have actually seen them work on my 97 and my 03.
