Default Mods My Way

Hey DISTINCTDEV, Cool set-up and a great idea. I also did it " My Way ". I used a MAC Big Mouth cone filter and a MAC Products MAF Velocity stack for a 03 Suburban that was on my shelf. It is a 3-bolt MAF set-up just like my Z06. I bought a SLP coupler for the throttle body to air bridge.

The filter I used is the largest cone filter I have ever seen and I've been wrenching on Corvette since the mid 70's. The base is 6" and as is the Velocity stack and it had a 4" opening that fits perfect on the Z06 MAF. This set-up is very similar to the Vortex Rammer Cold Air Intake.

I have yet to finish the enclosure for it. I also bought the Vararam Velocity stack for the throttle body, on sale for $34.75 . I have seen it all since the 70's but this Velocity stack works, but only a low speeds, far as I can tell from my seat of the pants testing. The combination of these parts made a noticeable difference compared to the Zip-Tie mod I had.

I have always tried to do my own intakes ,exhausts, etc on my Corvettes, 16 owned total so far. The aftermarket stuff is great if you don't do your own stuff but I have found that my ideas have made just as much power as alot of after market stuff.

People used to tell me that I was putting some " Home Made "
s*#@ on my LT4's,ZR1's and Z06's. The money I saved let me buy the extra goods like cams, rockers etc, plus the fun and pride of doing it myself.

Good luck with your ride .

Are Texas speed long tubes good headers? Spending $1500 for headers/xpipe just sound crazy to me, but the Texas speed set up seems to be priced much more reasonable. How do you like yours? easy to install and do they fit well?

tsp headers are a great deal. we did run into a few issues installing them. The air tubes would not bolt up, the holes on the flanges seemed as if they were drilled to far apart, you can skip this problem by getting the headers without the airtube ports are removing the air system from your car which is what i ended up starting to do. The tunnel plate has to be cut to install the o2 sensors. the drivers side header has a very tight fit and seems to rest on part of the transmission. Supposedly the brackets for the headers are not supposed to line up (mine didnt) but they said they are removing these brackets from future versions of the headers because they are unnecessary. If you want to add a wideband you will have to have a bung welded in also. The o2 sensor need extended, but thats the same with pretty much any LT header out there.

other than the AIR they sound like they would work fine. How can the driver side header rest on the trans considering the trans is rear mounted?

Default Tsp Headers

I bought a set of used TPIS L/T headers and a used Dr. Gas X-pipe. They fit great. My 01 Z06 had a replacement motor dealer installed in 2004. With a zip-tie mod,the above headers,x-pipe and stock Ti's dynoed 379/383 at the wheels.

A buddy has a shop that has installed every L/T header out there and the main difference is the ones with an extended merge style collector. Those make on average 6-8 more peak H/P on a stock Z06motor.
