Do they usually include these pucks with the vehicle at point of sale? Where is the best place to get them? I was going to attempt this without the pucks. Bad idea?
there are a number of different versions. I don't own any myself but I need to get some before long. check out the forum supporting vendors, many of them sell the pucks.
Just get a jack that has a wide pad for contact. and use one of the points.
been doing that for years.
if you drive the car up on some flat boards just a bit, and jack up from the point closest to the rear of the door, you can take care of the entire side.

Not if you really enjoy buying repair kits and having body shops fix your car, no.
Do a search for jacking pucks on this forum and order the BMW pucks. Professional look, they can be left in if you like, or removed after use and are very reasonably priced.

IMO, the jacking pucks are a nice item to have, especially if you have to take the car in for any kind of work at a dealer or other repair facility. A good source for them is Elite Engineering.

The pic posted shows the rocker panels that go under the frame. See where the frame is dotted. Look at the back #3 jacking position and see how the rocker has a cutout around that point. You need the puck to fit in that spot and go between the jacking method and the frame. There really is no other place to put a jack or lift arm under the car from the side at the back. The frame goes up once it comes out from under the rocker.
You can stick a jack or lift under the frame at the front by going in under the fender without damaging anything. You can catch the frame where the rocker isn't covering it at the front #3 jacking point fairly easily.
