I don't know about delamination, but I put on my painted top generally from Memorial Day to Labor Day -- the sun just gets too hot fo me during summer driving (mid-Atlantic).

The glass top is definitely hotter here in Texas than the painted top. Not sure about the delamination thing.

I change from the clear top to the painted top once the weather gets over 90. Otherwise the inside of the car just gets too hot.

It just makes good sense to run the solid top in 100 degree heat!

UV exposure will certainly take its toll, as will heat. I'm certain beyond a doubt that such exposure will accelerate deterioration. It certainly does on most anything else. Mine is still in perfect condition after 10 years, but gets very little exposure being that I store it in its targa bag 7 to 8 months of the year.

My '97 that I bought 5 months ago only came with the glass top. Living in central CA where the summer temps can reach 110+, I thought I should have the painted top. Found one a forum member was selling and purchased it for a great price.

I'm sure it helps keep the temp down in the summer heat, but I also like the fact I can change the look of the car whenever I want.

I painted my White Top Black so I can use it during the summer and it does keep the hot sun out of the cockpit and eaiser to cool down

i live just up the road a few miles from you - i agree it's nice to have both tops - i do like the looks of the dark glass top better but i'm sure the heat isn't a good thing on the lam top! - i put the painted top on today for the first time - it fit!!!!! tom

Not sure if the heat speeds up problems with the glass top, but if you have a painted one, now would be the time to use it. Sure cuts down on heat in the car.
