Default Canada vs. US C5?

I recently brought my car into the shop (bought it about a month ago) and when they looked up the history, turns out the car was originally sold in Canada. It is a 2001 convertible.

Does anyone know what, if any, differences there are between a US and a Canada vette?

All corvettes are made in Bowling Green. The only differences I can tell are these:Canadian vette has a 300 mph/km speedometer, twilight sentinel always on,metric oil pressure and temperature gauges. Other than that,it's the same.

Other than your gages being metric and possibly not being able to disable the twilight sentinel I don't think there's any other differences.

Your guage cluster is probably different. I have a 2000 C5 originally delivered in Canada, I assume Quebec. Speedometer has digits to 300, the analog oil press guage is in metric units of kPa, and coolant temp is in degrees C. Some of my engine stickers are in French. All four tail lights are red with yellow insert for turn signal (this may be aftermarket). That's all the differences I've noticed.

Our cars also get a block heater, and in some of the C5 years the bumper supports are different (which is why we need to change them when importing a US car up here)

Also, for the earlier C5s such as my 98, the DIC will always default to metric when you first start it up. That annoys me since I actually prefer not to run it in metric.

It is aftermarket, as our tail lights are normally solid red too.

Option Code "Z49" is a Corvette being delivered to Canada for sale. Not sure what that entails. Its been used on "ALL" Chevy cars for quite some time now. I suspect since Canada went metric in the mid 70's.

See this web site, and look at option Z49 at the bottom of the list.
http://www.corvettemuseum.com/specs/2001/pricing.htm

If I hit the button on my dash (bottom right) called "E/M". That is English/Metric. When cruising along and I hit that button at 60mph, my needle automatically adjusts to 100km/hr. All of my gauges changes to metric etc...With that E/M option there I just don't see any reason why they need to continue making a special Z49 option. I can see how old corvettes with analog gauges would have to have metric gauges special for Canada made. I don't think there is any other difference in the Corvette being sold in Canada other than gauge readouts... I'd love to hear of any other differences in the Canadian optioned car.

Hope this helps:

Okay the Canadian option 1SA is the same as the US 1SC minus the HUD. The Canadian 1SB package contains the HUD and CD Changer.

As Stockman said the gauges being metric and not being able to disable the twilight sentinel from the DIC.

As Patman said that in some of the C5 years the bumper supports are different, usually the later years and only the Euro vettes have the Red/Amber taillights.

I'll have kids at a car show look at my dash and start screaming, "Dad, this car is really fast, it goes to 300 mph".

All Corvettes are from Bowling Green.......
All Corvettes shipped to Canada, Mexico, Europe or South America have KPH Speedometers! Oh, the ones that are shipped to Europe, have a different Rear License Plate holder and also taillights!

01 Canadian Vert owner here. Ironically mine was shipped to Canada and bought by the original owner and transported back to Northern VA.

The 300 kph speedo is great fun to have.

-I get a lot of non Vette people ask me at shows if my car will really go 300 mph.

-Late at night when you are the only one on the highway, and you have a friend with you, at about 65mph, hit your E/M button and have the needle go over 100, and freak your friends out

And yes, here in Va Bch, where it has been in the upper 90's with 40%+ humidity, I have gotten TONS of use out of my engine block heater.
