That true ? I never know what to call them, and the outsides look great, just the inside of the barrels are peeling, sure looks like chrome or some other kind of plating peeling to me (polish wouldnt peel would it?).
btw, my location is in my profile :-)
And I'm leaning towards second hand oems, or trading these as core . The plating sites have a lotta stuff about when you see peeling on surface, the metal under the plating has pits, they charge a lot to get it all back to where they can plate over it and have it come out smooth.
It's just the barrels, the outsides look great, not a mark on them, but apparently it's not too easey to just do the barrels. Eventually the edge of whereever you took the plating off to (and that would be the whole inner barrel area, right up to the nice chrome on the outsides) can start to peel, ruining the part thats good on the outside.
So while I am concerned with not adding some repro wheel that looks like stock but wieghs a lot more, I kinda like the way the stock thinspokes look, so I'll try to do something that involves oem wheels.
Same thing happened to my 02'!! I took it to the dealer & their regional manager had to come down & look at them. The wheels were defective in finish so I got new rims from GM. It was NOT easy but, they did it.
I'll see if I can find my post from back then, there were quite a few people with the same exact problem...It is not pitting from neglect or brake dust but rather the finish on inside of the rims are defective.

Icaughtvettefever; you think maybe GM replaced his aftermarket wheels ?
Good, now that I know they are not chrome. I gotta tell ya though, whats peeling is not clear (as I would expect clearcoat to be) its the same color as the inside of the barrel, like bubbling under the surface. What comes off is not transparent. Pretty annoying when you try to keep all the finishes on the car looking good.
Whatever, dosent much matter, I'm gonna have to do something with them when I get around to it (the it being getting around to spending the $800 - 1000 :-), damn, just when I wanted my NAV unit ).
Do yours wheels have any markings on them? Sounds like you either have aftermarket wheels or someone did a cheap chrome job on them.
Hey ICaughtVetteFever, know what I found out ?
I do in fact have aftermarket wheels with a cheap chrome job
You may not be up for the Emily Post award, but when you're right (and that would make me wrong in my assumption) I feel obligated to acknowledge the fact.
