Default Re-Chroming thinspokes?

I'm getting tired of the flaking inside the thinspoke wheels on the car. I'd like to keep tyhe OEM thinspoke look (and weight).

Anyone have a link to the guys that take yours and redo them (or core charge)?

I will continue to look in the Buy/Sell section, was just wondering what the other potions are.

Any input appreciated, thx.

Were your original thin spokes chromed? They were only polished from GM.

Default Chromies

Remember when they were called "Chromies"? I have actually been to West Coast Corvette's showroom and their thin spoke chrome wheels look beautiful. Now if your profile had your location in it we could tell you if there was another dealer near you. WCC does a core exchange and the chrome replacements are OEM. I had the guy at WCC tell me that himself. I didn't want any of those Chrome CHI-COMS. I will most likely do the WCC chrome exchange as I can drive there and have them do the mounting and balancing on the spot. Good Luck and let us know if you just get them plated or do an exchange. Oh yeah, pictures too! We must have pictures........

That true ? I never know what to call them, and the outsides look great, just the inside of the barrels are peeling, sure looks like chrome or some other kind of plating peeling to me (polish wouldnt peel would it?).

btw, my location is in my profile :-)

And I'm leaning towards second hand oems, or trading these as core . The plating sites have a lotta stuff about when you see peeling on surface, the metal under the plating has pits, they charge a lot to get it all back to where they can plate over it and have it come out smooth.

It's just the barrels, the outsides look great, not a mark on them, but apparently it's not too easey to just do the barrels. Eventually the edge of whereever you took the plating off to (and that would be the whole inner barrel area, right up to the nice chrome on the outsides) can start to peel, ruining the part thats good on the outside.

So while I am concerned with not adding some repro wheel that looks like stock but wieghs a lot more, I kinda like the way the stock thinspokes look, so I'll try to do something that involves oem wheels.

Do yours wheels have any markings on them? Sounds like you either have aftermarket wheels or someone did a cheap chrome job on them.

Dont know about markings on the back, never had them off myself. My garage has about two feet space on each side of the car, but . . .I just paved the driveway . . .so . . .I may now be able to take the wheels off myself

As far as them being aftermarket ? I'm pretty sure that are OEM, they look exactly like the ones I see on other vettes with thinspokes at carshows.

Yes, check, they never came from GM chrome, so it is one or the other, I am guessing aftermarket if the chrome is that bad. There are many copies of the OEM style, they would look the same as those you saw at the shows.

I was a set 06 ZO6 wheels that where 'black chrome'. Very nice IMO. Does anyone know if and/or where a set of wheels can be rechromed with this 'black chrome' finish?

They have "Color Chrome"

I guess anything is possible. The wheels on the car when I got it have a mirror like finish on the front and sides of the spokes and outter rim, and a matte finish on the inside of the barrel (the matte on the indise of the barrel is whats peeling).

So is it my use of the word chrome that has you so sure they are "aftermarket wheels with a cheap chrome job" ? or is it that the oem wheels with the thinspokes and the mirror like finish on the outside never peel on the drums?

I thought it was a common problem, but, I could have been mistaken.

Anyone else have the oem wheels and experiencing peeling on the inside of the barrels?

OEMs never had different finish barrels either, more evidence for aftermarket. Easy way to tell is if you just remove them and look at the markings. You can always just sand those parts down and paint the barrels too, would save you some trouble.
