Just wondering if any other '97 owners can help me out here. I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question.
Last evening, I went to my local Chevrolet dealer to check out a used 2002 Z06 that they had on the lot. When I went to open the door, although it was locked, I noticed that as soon as I lifted up the handle, the interior lights and the lights on the gauges, hvac, and radio controls came on.
By contrast, if it is dark out and I go to open the door of my '97 when it is locked, no lights come on on the dash, hvac, or radio controls. Is this correct, or do I have a minor issue? Can some owners of '97s do a quick little test for me?
Doors locked. Tryed to open door. No interior lights came on. Yours is OK.
However, I believe many vehicles have that feature. I know my '96 Ranger is like that. If truck is locked and I try to open it, the interior lights come on. Discovered it by accident btw. Just a safety/courtesy feature.
Can you please do me a favour and check one more thing out on your '97?
When it gets dark out tonight, can you unlock the doors of your car or open say the driver side door and let me know which interior lights come on? I am curious to see if it is just your courtesy lights ONLY or your courtesy lights AND the lights on your gauages, radio, and hvac controls. When I do the latter, or unlock my '97 at night, only the courtesy lights come on.
"When I do the latter, or unlock my '97 at night, only the courtesy lights come on."
I just checked mine on my '97 and that's what I got. Courtesy lights (under the mirror) and the rear cargo lights came on. No lights come on in the dash. You're OK. That's the way it's supposed to be.
