Installing c6 z shifter. It came locked in gear, I would think that the metal bar in the front must be lifted up after install to engage.
Thanks
You think right. The pin in the front of the shifter is just to hold it in neutral position when you install the shifter. You have to pull it into the up position to release the shifter.
Most aftermarket shifters, like Hurst, do not even have a provision for the pin.

Yes, the C6 Z06 is shorter than a C5 shifter. That is how it's throws are shorter. No, the C6 Z06 shifter isn't threaded. I cut mine even shorter and threaded it (9/16"-18) down to the bend (thats as far as you can physically go) to accept my favorite white Hurst ball. The stock C5 **** is also 9/16"-18 thread as is most threaded *****. Do a search for C6 Z06 shifter install in the archives for a great how to including pics. Chuck1026 I think. Sounds like the Bible, doesn't it? Book of Chuck verse 1026
Edit: I stand corrected the install DIY is from member Patches.
I installed the c6 z06 shifter last year and also love it. The throw might be the same but, the height is much shorter thus making the throw appear to be shorter. That being said, it is much smother and IMHO much more comfortable. I'm a small guy and my arm no longer leaves the counsel when shifting before, I felt like I was driving a truck. Just my .02

I would do it again. The C6Z06 has other attributes as well. It has bronze bushings, is mounted solidly (the C5 is rubber mounted) Is insulated better (vibration/noise) and can be bought for $125 (no Ball/screw) Thread it yourself or for less than $200 complete. Between this shifter and the Anti-Venom Mod (for $1.50) my MN6 feels just like an M-22 with a Hurst Competition Plus from the '60s/'70s.

If the height is much shorter then it not only appears to make the throws shorter, it is making them shorter....right?
I am curious why there seems to be such a difference on opinions regarding the throw on the C6 shifter, that is why I am asking. I mean it should not be that hard to tell if the throws are shorter or not. I can understand it being smoother and more precise due to the difference in the mounting (no rubber mount) so that may be worth it even if the throws are the same.
A C6/Z06 shifter is the same construction as a C5/Z06 shifter with the exception of the rearward bent lever and possibly the bushings, if changed by the installer. Obviously, the **** is a great improvement over the C5/Z06. Gene Culley has even stated they're basically the same.
They're all made from stamped steel and rubber for isolation from noise and vibration. The rearward bent lever probably makes the shifts feel shorter just as shortening an oem C5/Z06 shifter does to some degree.
The fact that it's new (with no wear patterns) might make it feel better to some users.
