Thinking about G5X3 Cam and AFR 205 heads, can't afford both at once, so what do I do first? Thoughts.....
Wait until you can afford both at the same time and you'll save ~$700 in the process(labor/retune). But, if I absolutely had to choose-definitely cam first, it will net you the most power.
You will need dual valvesprings to run that cam. If you do the cam (only) first, you will need to swap the spings in your stock heads when the cam goes in.
If you put the heads on now, you will be all set when you do get the cam, and there will be very little labor done twice.
CAM first if you can't do them both. CAM only cars have shown nice increases in both the power and torq departments. If you do go CAM only right now, you need to upgrade the pushrods and springs at the least. I would further recommend a new timing chain and at the least a LS6 oil pump - if you want to spend a few dollars more get a ported one. The springs and pushrods can always be transferred over to the new heads down the road.
Ideal world...do both at one time and MAKE SURE you get a good tune!!!
I would personally do the cam first if given the choice but I did heads/cam both at the same time along with blower. I wanted that first hit to be the real one

Tom makes a good point here...with that size cam, you'll have to swap the springs on the heads anyway. Have patience and do them both at the same time. You'll be happier and save money on labor.
