I don't like the blackouts either. My FRC came with a set, which I removed about 5 minutes after getting home, and then sold.

This has nothing to do with looks or styling for that is a personal preference.

Light output is measured in lumens. Lumans is a unit of measurement of the amount of brightness that comes from a light source. Lumens define "luminous flux," which is energy within the range of frequencies we perceive as light. If any covering is placed over a light source that's anything other than optically clear, it reduces the amount of visible light. Adding blackouts considerably darkens the tail light and reduces the amount of available throughput.

These coverings are sold in most states with a waring that their for off-road or show use only, check state and local laws.

To each his own but covering a light source with a darker lens will only make it darker, not brighter and the color of the car makes no difference at all....
As much as I hate this topic, it is the truth. If I park my car with the sun shining DIRECTLY into my rear bumper with the blackouts on and off and hit the brakes and you are standing 20 feet away, you will have a harder time seeing the lights with the BLACKOUTS off in my case.

My wife was following me one day and called my cell and asked if my brake lights were working, because she could not see them and it had a lot to do with the direction the sun was hitting the rear of my car. When the black outs were back on, she told me that things were much better. This occurred with a buddy following me. He told me later he would much rather the blackouts be on my car when he is following me in the day. I could REALLY careless what the lumans and all that jazz is all about and how the output of light is measured (appreciate the facts on that that sort of thing), but the point is this, I quickly put my blackouts back on, because I had multiple (not just these two occasions) where firends told me that they aactually see the brake lights better during the day on my "all black" rear-end with them on, then with them off and that is enough for me. I an seriously thinking about getting the LED set anyway to illuminate more light back there, but until then, I will just continue to run them.

I just saw a thread over in OFF-TOPIC about guys whining abuot HIDs and the white and blue lights. People are never satisfied or have to gripe about something.

- If you really can't tell when the brake lights are coming on you are in need of an eye examination.

- How many people do you see driving cars these days with all brake lights working?

Hope everyone is having a great weekend elsewhere, because it has been pretty much raining all of mine here.

True, but why give them an excuse to pull you over, when not speeding? Like most things in life, your choice.

Nice point, I will continue to take my chances. I have been driving with them on for many years (almost three) and the one time I was pulled wasn't for the blackouts and a license plate (smoked) cover, it was about my tint (it was well inside the legal limit), but the officer had "one in training" and made it a point to tell me about the law on the blackouts, he was cool about it, but I have been followed many times by state troopers, locals and county officers and never bothered about it besides that one time. I am not telling anyone that you will not get pulled for it, just that I have been told of the law and I know that I have had people tell me that they can see my brake lights better in the daylight when I do apply them.

I will still stand behind my vote...go for it, I think the BLACKOUTS look great on the following colors.

BLACK
SILVER
RED
WHITE
and
SPIRAL GRAY
