Hi everyone I have a Quicksilver Z06 with red/clear Euro taillamps along with the black exhaust overlay and i was contemplating whether or not to black out my white reverse lights beside my rear license plate.
Question is has anyone done this if so can you post some pictures?
Would you or would you black the lights out on a Silver vette? why or why not?
To each his own, but blackouts are just not for me.
... I agree, their not for me either...The last thing I want to do it have my brake lights difficult to see and have someone slam into me from behind...
I never understood the logic or wisdom of putting a blackened insert over your headlights and then add a pair of driving lights to see when your driving at night...
They make the tail lights look cheap. If you had black lenses they might look different. Just wait until you take those things off. The sand that gets in between them and lens does a hell of job sanding down the OEM lenses. They will have to be replaced.

too...
But he only mentioned the back-up lights... but in reality, I want to see where I'm backing as well...

thanks all
I've done it but on the fence as to liking it. I think I would like it better if I pulled the lights and had them painted

Speaking as a guy that has them I beg to differ. I have an all BLACK car and have black outs. I took them off and people complained to me that it was harder to see my brake likes during the day with the black outs off than with them on. Because I have a black car and it is completely black with them on in the rear of the car, when I brake it ulimates more than with the black outs on. I don't drive that much at night, so I will not argue the point on the brake lights being any brighter at night. You can argue my point all you want but it is the truth, on my BLACK car at 1200pm you will see my brake lights better with the black outs on than off. I have even pulled and warned of the state's rules on black outs and still leave them on.
I also pulled the #2 fuse and turned off my daytime running lights, because I hate those too. I got rid of my popups, because I am not a fan. I am one of the odd ***** here.
I personally say...BLACK accents on a SILVER vette looks GREAT!
IMO, Blackouts look best on Quicksilver, Spiral grey or black. Some other colors can pull off the look, but it looks natural on these.
I was worried about my brake lights being too dark, but using the halo LED tails, they're plenty bright, even using richard's total blackout method (darker than the cherry blackout)
(running lights)
For good measure, i also installed a Custom LED brakelight/turn signal bar: turn sigmals are Amber and brake is red.

Oh well, good luck!!
- i WANT people to see my rear - end lol the last thing i want is someone nailing my butt, i know you were just talking about back up lights but as you can see by my sig i want it nice and bright so you can see me.
Another thing to consider. If you get rear ended, the person that hit you can claim the black outs inhibited them from seeing you possibly getting them out of having to fix your car.
I got the vinyl blackout kit from ecklers fo like 16 bucks, you dont have to remove them to wash the car but i choose to, i use the rev. light ones all the time and go back and forth between the tailight ones, looks very nice w/ a black car, I dont think blackouts inhibit enough light to cause someone to hit you, If theyre that dumb watch out theyre probably gonna hit you anyways, Ill try to post some pics soon

Sorry Micah, someone may have told you what you wanted to hear, but not only isn't true is simply doesn't make sense at all.
This has nothing to do with looks or styling for that is a personal preference.
Light output is measured in lumens. Lumans is a unit of measurement of the amount of brightness that comes from a light source. Lumens define "luminous flux," which is energy within the range of frequencies we perceive as light. If any covering is placed over a light source that's anything other than optically clear, it reduces the amount of visible light. Adding blackouts considerably darkens the tail light and reduces the amount of available throughput.
These coverings are sold in most states with a waring that their for off-road or show use only, check state and local laws.
To each his own but covering a light source with a darker lens will only make it darker, not brighter and the color of the car makes no difference at all....
