The picture shows a yellow rope attached to the car which stretches over to the dock. My theory is that this person became so wowed with the capabilities of the Corvette that he assumed it must be able to float and attempted to launch it, thus the nose first drive down the ramp.............or..........
Hope this is not a dupe but anyone know the story behind this one?
Yup, that was me. My boat is made out of fiberglass and it floats and since the vette is made out of fiberglass............I thought what the hell, can't hurt anything to try it.
Maybe it was a knee jerk reaction to a proposed repo. When I was growing in in central PA, there was a 3000 foot-deep strip coal mine (reportedly) with a whole bunch of cars at the bottom. Interesting thing was that the water had an extremely high sulphur content from the mines. No oxygen in that water. As a result, the cars down there would not rust.
Many rumors around town that if someone's car was about to be repo-ed, he would drive the car into this body of water.
Way back then, my cousin owned a towing service and bought a beautiful red 65 GTO that was in the water for $500 plus another $500 for scuba divers.
He rebuilt that car several times and never could get it to run right.
