Default Another newb question...

So, I have heard people saying they have changed from the 3.42 to the 4.10 gears, What exactly does this mean? Is it just a part you can put on? And you can do it to an A4 correct?

Thanks guys

You can do it to an automatic or manual. It changes the gear ratio in the rear axle.

What this means is you actually remove the stock gearing in the rearend of the car and replace it with a larger gear. A bigger gear will help with getting the power down, and getting better quarter mile times if you take the car to the track.

Yes, you can change the gearing in a auto car or manual. Replacing the gear isnt like changing oil. There is specific measurments and certain ways to make sure the gear is shimmed properly. Otherwise you will break it.

As others have said, what it means is that you are changing the rear differential gear. Definitely should be done by someone with experience in working on vettes, as they are not like other cars.

I've never gotten there and have no reason to, much less no where to

Hey Sam,

You should come down to Burger King some Saturday night. Shoot me a PM if you are interested...

IMHO 4.10's are a little much for an A4. A lot of people go with 3.73 or 3.90's with an A4. Your going to want to do a higher stall converter at the same time...

Peace
Chip

When I do end up doing this (next summer maybe) I will probably get the 3.90's not the 4.10's. What Burger King do you guys goto? My Saterdays are pretty busy but maybe if I get one free I'll be able to come by
