Default neck collars safe?

Are neck collars good protection or will they make neck injuries worse?

what does racing industry say?

Hi, I live in Phx. too. I have worn a Simpson neck collar for about 3 years when road racing or drag racing and it keeps my head from jerking around and my helmet from irritating me. I see all of the top drivers in NHRA wearing them and most road racers. I,m sure they offer some whiplash protection and I don't get the usual neckache/headache after 30 laps at PIR that I used too. I use it at Speed street, the indoor cart racing track as well. If I could afford a Hans device I would wear one of those too. Try one , you will lke it. FLYZLOW

Back when I was dirt track racing I wore one and it helped a lot to reduce the stress on my neck. I don't see how it could do anything other than help support the weight of your head and helmet during acceleration and cornering (if you are road racing). It will probably make you faster in later races or later in the race by reducing fatigue. My two cents
