I got mine new and I have never dropped it yet...I just lay it closed and push over the latches and it has worked perfect for 3 years now
I will let the next owner beat the hell out of the hood but I won't
When I mean slam it is more like a drop from 2 feet would never beat up on any part of my car. Definately a problem closing C5 hoods.

I close the hood very gently just until it starts to latch then I carry a 50lb bag of sand in the back which I toss right in the middle of the hood. Sometime is still won't close right and I just stand with one foot on each side of the bag and jump. That always works!! People are just amazed when they see me. I know, I know, they're probably thinking "Hey, what didn't I ever think of that!!". And......if you keep the hood wax really good, you can just slide the bag of sand down the front onto the ground. That way you don't have to pick it up and chance scratching the hood as you lift it off.
Alright folks, let's get our latches and bump stops adjusted

Why does everyone just live with the problem instead of fixing it? Everything is not adjusted perfectly from the factory, even on a Corvette. If you cannot drop the hood from the center from 1-2 feet and have the hood latch on both sides, you need to adjust the rear hood bumpers down a little until they latch easily.
If you think you should never slam a Corvette hood, then you better not get a carbon fiber hood. They are so light that they will go back up if you let them go from any height, so you have to slam them down from the middle of the hood. They are not only light, they flex a lot.
FYI...the rubber stops for the hood are adjustable. Sounds like yours might be a turn or two too high preventing the hood from fully activating the latches on a reasonable drop. Just loosen the lock nut on the threaded stem under the rubber top and and lower the stem a couple turns and see if it helps.
My 03 did this and come to find out the latch on the inside of the fender was loose and the screw just needed to be tightened. Fixed it and never had the problem again. But then I sold it. I need another baaddd.
Bump stops are not the only adjustment -- the latch mechanisms can be moved around, too. If after adjusting the bump stops you don't like the hood/fender alignment, put the bump stops back to where the alignment is good and adjust the latches to match. Mine now latches both sides every time when dropped from less than a foot.
