I Had My Column Lock Fixed Last Year After This Happened And Im Getting The Message Again. The Car Drives Fine But Now It Seems The Battery Isnt Holding A Charge, I Had To Jumpstart It Twice Today. Does Having A Battery Thats Low Affect The Column Lock Message? Does It Sound Like A Dead Battery Issue? And What Battery Should I Get I Have A 6 Year Ac Delco Now.
1999 Corvette Coupe
6-spd
COLUMN LOCK WAS FIXED BY THE DEALER
Thanks In Advance
Todd

You don't mention how you had the problem fixed previously, CLB or dealer. A low battery can cause all sorts of strange problems. Once I had a low battery that activated the fuel shut-off and the car would not run if it got over 2 or 3 MPH. Unless you replaced the battery within the last year or two I would start there.

I would start with the battery. Pull it out, if you can and get it checked. As others have said -- low/failing battery will cause our Vettes to do very strange things. Good luck!!
PS -- Over the years, I have had very good luck with Delco batteries. However, many other forum members have not. IMHO, Exide makes a very good battery.

After replacing your battery I would strongly suggest to you to install a CLB from either Corvettes of Houston or Thunder Racing as soon as possible. $50 later, you won't go through this again.

The only real fix for the Column Lock. Dealer recall is only temporary as you now know. Get the CLB!!!
Hey, check out the thread I have going on now. It's titled CLB. I just posted about the what Happened to me this last week. Never mine, I will post it in here for you so you don't have to look for it. This is what I found out today:
Well, this is the last post I am doing on this thread. I was going to go down to the dealer and see what we could do about this recall thing and when I get ready to go, my wife is on the phone with the GM Consumer Help line talking to someone. She talked to them for about a 1/2 hour or so and they basically told her that the work that was done on my particular car was complied with back in 2001 and that in-fact the recall came out for my car in 2001. They also told her that the recalls that they put out are good for 12 months or 12,000 miles, which ever comes first. So I am basically screwed on this one. So if you ever get a recall done on anything that you have, you only have the 12/12,000 and then you have to pay. That is the word I got from the GM Hotline. If anyone knows more about recalls, let me know if they are just yanking me around.
So if you have not been past your 12/12,000, you can still get it fixed under the warranty.

The problem with this is the dealer can't fix it and will only leave you with a worse problem. It's a matter of quality in materials used. If you don't take heed. You will be $50 richer with a car that you can't use.
sounds like you might just need a new battery.although i had a recent issue similar to yours with the dealer. was told the same thing 12month or 12k miles. of course mine was not covered either. i did a lot of reading and found out they updated the original recall 04006 twice. 04006b and 04006c. if you've had either 04006 or 04006b done and have issues. there is a gm policy 05081 that states that the dealer will perform the updated 04006c at their expense. i had to tell my dealer about this and after reading the policy they covered the update. now with that being said, 2 days after i got car back. same messages appeared. so if you haven't bought a clb, do so now. mine is on order.
ttt thanks for are the replies i found out i did need a new battery i need suggestions. i dont really want ac delco again. and dont want an optima either. any suggestions?
