Default newbie needs tps help

i have a 99 c5 with 26,750 miles. today on the way home from work, i got the reduced engine power, check gauges, and tire pressure monitor lights on at the same time. so i pull over, resart, and on my way. right a way i check the tps(i could not get to it with all the light flashing).... front 39 and 38 rear 36 and 41. minutes later all the lights come on again. pull over let some out of the one with 41 and resart. now i have 39, 38 front and 36 and 40........ lights on again!... pull over let some more out of the 40 and front with 39. restart, now i have 36, 38 front and 36, 37 rear...... i am thinking i got it licked right?? wrong!, just as i get home all the lights come on again. 2 questions, what is wrong with my car?? and if i put new wheels and tires on with no sensors at all, how do i keep the car from promting me all the time? thanks in advance, curt

sorry, i orginally started this in the tech area, but i think i may get more reads over here. i hope it is ok.

What is the cold tire pressure using a gage not the sensor monitors?

Doesn't the owners manual call for 30 PSI in all tires. I know you can go up or down a few pounds, but 40 is way high to my way of thinking.

It will always be placarded on the driver's door panel. (Door usually stays with the vehicle, owner's manuals are not so lucky.)

That's correct 30 psi is the cold pressure.

I'm curious as to what a gage says not what the monitors are saying. Isolate the bad guy, with all those system faults should be some codes set.

Look on the drivers door for the recommended tire pressure, it is 30psi cold. Then keep an eye on the wear and adjust as needed. Outside not enough psi, center wear to much psi. Check them cold once a month.

Your TPS will not only alarm you when it reads "0" PSI(actually anything under 26 PSI), but also when it reads too high a PSI. I think anything over 45 PSI. It's possible this is why you are getting prompts.
