Just go with a 2 din nav unit!!! Looks great and gets lots of attention. Yeah you have to get a bezel custom but it is well worth the price!!! I just did mine and I love it!!

WHat aftermarket unit did you purchase? for how much and where?
also how much did the custom bezel work cost for the install?
are there forum vendors who sell high quality 2 din bezels? I used to be first in line to take on that kind of a conversion the hard way, but I don't have enough time between work and sleeping to do that kind of stuff :-)

and did you lose your ashtray?
You will lose the ashtray if you plan to do this. Making the bezel yourself is not hard, takes alot of time and sanding, but you will save alot of money to put into the rest of the system. I went with Kenwood ddx 6019 with the KNA G510 nav add on total for both was around 900.00 and I did my own bezel for 45.00 in materials. The nav is Garmin based and wired "correctly" you can adjust nav and watch movies while driving. BUt I would never to that see below for pics of my head unit and install.

Pioneer avic d3 $600 (off the forum, you can get them on ebay for 700 all day)
Custom bezel $500 (if you get it in black, I got all the interior painted white to match my car cost me $800 including shipping)
Yes you lose your ash try!

One of my concerns with the Kenwood is the wiring. Is there a adapter that you can get to adapt the Kenwood to the Stock wiring harness. Any issues wiring the unit up when you put it in?

Thanks.

No issues at all, but my whole system was replaced so all new wiring was done in whole car, but did use a gm adapter. We replaced factory speaker with Elemental Designs Components in front and Infinity shallow mounts in the rear and added a Elemental Designs 12" sub in the back all powered by a Jl 6 channel amp. Wiring was purchased a knuconcepts.com very cheap place to get nice good quality products. We also put in the PAC PRT-7 bypass to allow for the nav and dvd to play while drving. Ask DPG and Pentavolvo in the audio section and they will be of great help. They are the mad men behind the install and making everything sound great. I just made the bezel!!!
Hope this helps.
It would be nice if a company like Kenwood comes out with 1.5 DIN NAV system. Are there any other units that have square edges rather than the curved version?

You don't have to lose the ashtray. You can modify the bezel how ever you want. I'm keeping the ashtray. I had to make it smaller by taking about 1/4" off the top and bottom of the door. I'm going to keep the power outlet and add a compartment for my Ipod. It's really not that hard but takes a lot time. I have the Kenwood 7019. Good luck!

I plan to put the Z2 in mine in the near future and am going to modify my radio bezel myself since it seems that it will cost a pretty penny to have it done. I will probably paint mine gloss black since it will be hard to match the other interior surfaces. Maybe even wrap it in a light leather? The ideas are flowing. I'm not keeping the ashtray though, although I might be able to make a new spot for the power/lighter plug...

Actually our bezels have round edges so wouldnt the Jeep 1.5 din Navi with round edges that I listed in my first post fit perfectly in our C5 Bezels?
