Anyone have pics of this installed? I am seriously leaning toward buying one.
It would be nice to find a system that would fit in w/o modifications. That sounded good until I read the CNET review and more importantly the user reviews. Seems as though the NAV falls flat on that unit. Otherwise a nice unit. If they fix the NAV on that unit it would be a nice alternative.
No issues at all, but my whole system was replaced so all new wiring was done in whole car, but did use a gm adapter. We replaced factory speaker with Elemental Designs Components in front and Infinity shallow mounts in the rear and added a Elemental Designs 12" sub in the back all powered by a Jl 6 channel amp. Wiring was purchased a knuconcepts.com very cheap place to get nice good quality products. We also put in the PAC PRT-7 bypass to allow for the nav and dvd to play while drving. Ask DPG and Pentavolvo in the audio section and they will be of great help. They are the mad men behind the install and making everything sound great. I just made the bezel!!!
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the help. Keep gravitating to the kenwood 7100. Just not sure of the mods to do it. The bezel or cutting out the rivets seem to be the biggest part. I feel the bezel will be easier from what I have read about removing the tray. Seen different approaches, but none easy.

You will find out what you will need to do for everything involved. The modding of the bezel is not hard, just takes alot of time and alot of sanding and filling. In the end you will save alot of money versus buying one(i have 50.00 into mine). C5KIDD does make an awesome product to purchase, but the money you will save can be spent on the rest of the system making it sound awesome. You will love what ever way you go, its worth every penny, well to me it was. Good luck and post pics as you go and of final product.
Is there a company that markets the 2 DIN console that has factory texture for C5 at reasonable cost? Keep us posted on your project
thanks everyone for the recommendations! "reasonable" cost is a matter of how much money you are looking to spend, and also the final fit and look of the final project. some will tell you its simple to make a bezel, but to actually mold it to where it looks factory takes many hours of labor. i do about 2-3 of these a week now. takes up pretty much ALL of my spare time. this is the reason the price may seem high to some, but time is money, and there is a LOT of time and work that goes into making a bezel look right.
for those who dont know... i DO sell a stock looking textured bezel. i can also fab up anything else you want in the bezel, gauges, ashtray, lighter hole, etc.
here is a pic of a double din bezel textured with dual gauges....
Here is what my installed Pioneer looks like. It was installed by a stero shop and the guy wrapped it in fiber material It's ove a year old and still looks great and works well. Nav and DVD along with CD.
First Install.
Second install with custom install.
The Pioneer AVIC N Series (N3 latest US version I think) fits into the standard bezel. Its a flip out screen so the only downside is it covers that AC vents when its out.
I have the Euro version the X1R fitted to mine. Good unit with all the modes including nav for a good price. Theres a lot of BS talked about the nav on the specialist boards. If you live in a big city it works great apart from the odd minor brain f*$t.
I did a DIY fit. It was reasonably challenging but I have a How To if you decide to go that way.
If you opt for 2xDIN, C5Kidds bezel is awesome
BTW, the reason my unit thinks its in Paris is that's the default location. I took the pic in Las Vegas before it could receive the Euro satellite signal. It knows it's home now
Just go with a 2 din nav unit!!! Looks great and gets lots of attention. Yeah you have to get a bezel custom but it is well worth the price!!! I just did mine and I love it!!
How much cutting - if any - did you have to do to the existing mounting cage in the dash to get the 2 Din unit to bolt in place?
As far as electronics - the GMCRV-1 Radio Interface adapter From SOUNDGATE supposedly allows for use of stock corvette Bose speaker system.
You have to cut the two brackets out of the mounting cage. We used a sawzall and had it done in seconds. You will need to reuse at least one of them and remount to where you need to to go to hold the new head unit. The cage itself is very tought to drill into when remounting the bracket, just an fyi.
if you are going to do it spend the extra and have brian ( C5KIDD ) make you a double din unit , i did not i went with the flip out screen unit and have regretted it ever since , so at some time in the future i will be having brian do a bezel for me and getting rid of my flip out . just my .02

interesting. what are the pros and cons of the flipout vs 2 din screen in your opinion? eventually I want to do this as well and I've been considering both. here are some of my thoughts
flip out screen pros
when extended the screen will be higher and may be easier to read than a 2 din screen.
the screen when retracted may look less expensive than it is to anyone who may be looking into your C5's window
it fits in a 1 din opening leaving the extra 1/2 available for an electronic crossover, something which I really like to have!
you don't need to buy or build a custom bezel, you don't have to relocate the HVAC controls, and you can keep the power outlet and the storage tray. (smokers may have other uses for them )
screen coming out looks neat
Cons
it looks aftermarket
when extended its almost certain to block airflow from the large A/C vent in the middle of the dash
I don't know how reliable they are with all the motors and moving parts, reliability?
its sometimes hard to find a good flip out screen which has all essential controls on the front of it so you can still use it with the screen down. you also need to find one which doesn't wiggle when you use the touch screen feature, that makes it look cheap.
2 din screen with a custom bezel
Pros
looks factory if done right, very good looking install
doesn't block the A/C at all
Cons
Must build or buy a custom bezel, loss of outlet etc.
no room left to add a crossover, unless you can do a really custom job and still fit it in there by eliminating the lower door area all together.
good clue to any onlooker that there is some very expensive aftermarket parts in the car...security? this can be fixed with some tins though.
I'm months away from thinking about this seriously, but if anyone has any other input I'd love to hear it.

nice job on all the pros and cons list , i did move my hvac down so that it did not block air flow , up where it normally goes it blocks air and does not let the cabin cool properly , and i have bluetooth and the air deflecting off the back of the unit made talking over the head unit impossible , looks out of place and not factory , so the double din will look more like a factory unit , and you could leave the power unit at the bottom , it may be exposed but that would not look that bad , and there is a power unit in the console .
another bezel i just finished for a forum member. he was concerned about the outlet, and also wanted a "pocket built" to store cell phone and such....
possibilities are endless....
That is the "flavor" that convinces me that when it comes time for me to upgrade I'll be contacting you!! Retaining the power/ligther and the minimal storage is important to me so seeing how you've done this, in a stock texture does the final convincing to me.
i just got to drive a 2004 escalade ext and it was equipped factory navigtion and it looks like it would fit in the z06 anybody have experience with these.
