So my parked C5 was hit by a coworker in the parking lot at work tonight. It's not bad, but still, any incident is one too many.
The guy left a note and I called him up when I found it a few hours later. He was very apologetic and sincere about the accident. He told me that his truck even has rear sensors that are supposed to detect if a car is behind him, but it looks like my car was too low.
He has Allstate and gave me the name of his agent who he will call first thing in the morning. I haven't had to deal with insurance for a fender bender since I was 17. Do the insurance companies cut you a check for the damage and have you go to a shop? Or do they pay the shop directly?
I have damage on my front bumper so I am wondering if they have to replace it, would they have a problem buying me a tigershark? I would imagine that the tigershark is about the same price or even less than the stock bumper.
Any firsthand insurance related info is appreciated.
I highly doubt you are going to get anything aftermarket from the insurance.
If the piece needs to be replaced, they will order everything OEM to fix the car no matter what the price.
I guess there is no reason not to ask, but don't be surprised to get a fast no. I have had a couple of small claims, one for an incident where I was parked as well, and the car was fixed with OEM parts by the body shop.

Good Luck, Zee
did the insurance company write you a check or did they pay the shop directly?

I just filed a claim with AAA for a scratch on my front fascia/bumper. What they did was, after an approved estimate, write a check to the body shop with my name on it for a cosign.
So, from my experience, the insurance companies are no longer writing the policy holder a check for the estimate these days. Maybe that’s just AAA.
Good luck negotiating for the tiger shark upgrade.

About a year ago my car was hit by someone with Allstate. I had to threaten to sue the policy holder just to get it fixed properly. Allstate had me go to their office for them to look at the damage, they then worked out how much it should cost to fix it and would not budge on that estimate. No body shop would touch it for that estimate not even the ones on their list. The main problem was that my car is black and as Allstates adjuster kept telling me "Allstate does not pay to color blend black" They said it could be panel painted. I posted on this forum while I was going through it. Good Luck
I had a similar experience with my other car (300 SRT8). My friend backed into it in his driveway while I was over for dinner. He had allstate too. I had to go to an Allstate rep - in this case it was at a Ford dealer (of all places). The rep looked over the car, put together an estimate and then tried to get me to get it fixed at the Ford dealer - no thanks.
After the estimate, you are entitled to take your car wherever you want. I took mine to the local Chrysler dealer. The dealer then worked directly with the rep to get the car fixed.
I never received a check or anything. Allstate worked directly with the repair shop for payment, etc.
Hope this helps. Have faith - mine turned out looking great.
A week after I got my vette painted, someone backed there hitch on their truck right through my front bumper.
I researched the tigershark but it was way more than the stock bumper, plus the fitment issues = more labor = more money, or I would have gone that route.
But I would imagine that if you take it to a bodyshop of your choice, that you could pay the difference and have them order a tigershark.
I was hit in a parking lot about 2 years ago. I cant remember the name of the other guys insurance but.. His insurance company sent someone to look at it. He gave an estimate of how much it would cost. Then they cut me a check! They also said they would work with me if it ended up costing more than they gave me! My dad is retired from owning a body shop so we did the work and i actually came out about $800 ahead.
Ok, in the parlance of insurance claims you are the "claimant". You are entitled to a rental car paid for by his insurance policy. Believe me, I was in the insurance replacement business. In most states you are also entitled to chose the repair shop yourself, so choose wisely grasshopper. You will have to insist on this with his agent and the claims adjuster as well. They may try to influence you or downright bully you, so be prepared. The claims adjuster may say something like this: "Well Mr. Squarebritches policy will only pay $42.00 per day for a rental car." To that you reply that you are NOT the insured but the claimant and you will rent something like you usually drive everyday. Is your Corvette a Daily Driver? Good Luck and let us know how things worked out. If you go with the TigerShark front end, I am certain that the insurance estimator will not be party to that, sorry. However you might get lucky.
thanks for all the input. as far as the TS is concerned, i figured that if that part costs what the OEM would (and they cut me a check) i would get it.
I would atleast consider taking a check from them, walking away from it and putting a bra on the front until a used bumper painted the same color comes up for sale, then you can have it swapped on at minimal cost and have OEM paint. Just an idea.
I have Allstate and either you will drive the car to one of their estimate centers or a claims person will visit you. He/She will look at your car write an estimate and cut you a check before they leave. It then will be up to you where to take it. If the claim writer missed something the body shop will call and Allstate will come to the body shop and look at additional damage and if necessary release more funds to cover damage.
Just went through something similar with Allstate got pinned on the interstate behind a gravel truck spewing rocks and as soon as I was pulling on the shoulder I got a cracked windshield and chips on the bumper cover. Drove it in, they looked at and cut the check for the body repair, the glass went through another system.
