I'm kinda on the fence with these. I like the thought of having the classic year style with the current year interior, reliability, handling,,,,
I just think spending $80K for it is a little too much ($20K for the C5 +$60K for the conversion).
The guy that owned the car said he thought the conversion was around $90k now. And you have to furnish a C5 Convertable, which is going to be more that $20k. He said the conversion was $49k when he did his 2 years ago. If I wanted a old car "look", this would be the one to have (If your wallet was fat enough).

My buddy owns four of them. Trust me when I tell you, you won't get anywhere near his cars for $90K....more like $165K.
Custom wheels, custom exhaust, VE interior, his cars are all low mileage new cars ('03 and '04 with less than 5K miles).
He owns a black one with silver coves and red interior, a Nassau blue 6-speed with black and silver interior, a torch red with red/black interior and his white one with silver coves is in the finishing stages right now, and he should have it in about 10 days.

I can't say how they are titled in other states - but in Arizona, the MVD (Motor Vehicle Department) insisted on removal of the VIN plate and installing their own plate. The car is licensed and titled as a '62 meaning that it has Antique plates and is not subject to emissions tests in Arizona.
There is another member from Washington (IM20AGN) who has the same conversion.
For those posting the overall costs - having recently investigated the various vendors offering conversions it is extremely possible to acquire one (with you providing the donor Vette) for ~$45k to $55k.
Just a note - most of the vendors WILL NOT allow wheel/tires OTHER than stock sized (OEM, C5).
That is really cool!!! I think that I could find a lot of things to do with the money it cost for the conversion. Wish that I had that kind of money to burn.
You could just pay $45 grand for a 1962 Vette, then spend another $25 grand upgarding the suspension, drivetrain, and interior.
I think it is cool. I would much rather take my C5 on a 500 mile trip to the mountains or beach, than my C3. I can't imagine what the trip would be like in a C2 or a C1.
