Default Ponder This!

If the corvette A/C system only has one central return line that meets in the center of the dash.(I know I just ripped my dash out) And the passenger and driver side air all get vented to it, then why do you have a driver's side and passenger side A/C control?

I can turn my Driver's side to 60 and the passenger side "all the way red" and it keeps blowing cold air, turn drivers side up and the passenger side heats up. Give it a try, see if you get different results.

No wonder the passenger **** has no digital numbers.

The Illusion of choices

Not sure how it does it but the passenger side adjustment is only plus or minus 2 degrees in temperature.

I'm wondering if it just alters ALL the air 2 degrees?

Nope just the air on the pax side. The air on the drivers side stays at the temp set on the digital read out.

Tried it in my truck, which has digital on both, and sure enough each side was seperate.

$45k truck has dual climate control and $54k Corvette doesn't. This to me is Bass Ackwards

It doesn't feel any different in my car. Pull your dash apart some time, there is no way to alter the air temp on just that side. It all comes from the same hole under the dash.

It's one big GM power of suggestion test!

I think the passenger side will be different because the **** tells me so.

I've had the dash apart a few times when I fitted my AVIC. Thats why I say I'm not sure how it works. Maybe one of the electrical gurus can explain? Guess the only way to check is to put a thermometer down there and take some readings. My hands not accurate to 2 degrees

Heres what the manual says. The 2 degrees came from my fuzzy memory banks froma previous thread. At 60 the temperature is locked to the digital setting.

Passenger Temperature Offset
The PASSENGER **** changes the temperature on the
passenger’s side of the vehicle. When the **** is in the
12 o’clock position, the passenger’s temperature is the
same as the driver’s. Turn the **** clockwise for warmer
air on the passenger’s side, counterclockwise for cooler
air. If the driver-set temperature is set at 60F (16C) or
90F (32C), turning the passenger **** has no effect
because the system is locked at a maximum setting.

OK somebody who works for GM chime in here. I don't believe 2 degrees is enough for human skin to notice a difference, and I'll bet the power of suggestion could have more of an impact on what you actually "feel" There aren't even any internal baffles seperating the air on the left and right side of the exhaust outlet, which I could see having a small effect on the two sides. I think they did it because 2 ***** look more symetrical and therefore more attactive.

Bingo

Heres a pic from Joe1021s HUD fit. Confirms what you say. PM E-T, Patches or Bill Curlee and see if they know

Well even there it looks deceiving, but the other side attached to the dash doesn't even have that middle seperator. And that fin that has foam stuck to it moves in unison as it is really one piece, something for which that picture wouldn't show. The fan itself is located just below and behind the airbag.

I was under the impression that the actuator doors on the driver and passenger-side diverted air as appropriate per the settings on the HVAC unit...I know that when running the heat, the driver's and passenger's vents can vary temperature a noticeable amount when the passenger **** is not in the 12 o'clock setting. But like DeeGee says, the passenger setting has no effect when the temp is set to 60 or 90 degrees (max settings). Differences in temp between driver and passenger-side are probably most apparent when the temp is set somewhere toward the middle, I'll bet. As soon as my car is out of the paint booth I'll check for myself.

Those door flaps are a solid piece, I'll go try somewhere in the middle and see what happens.

I'll be damned. Not a huge difference , but it did change from cold to not as cold when I kept my hand on the vent and turned it all the way from hot to cold. More than 2 degrees I'll bet. This is what happens when you post **** at 1:00 in the morning. I'm going to bed!
