Lately I've been having an issue with my blinkers...they work intermittently (usually deciding to not work at the most inconvenient times!). I'm sure it's just electrical...I've been having other electrical problems as well (driver side door won't unlock all the time and the key fob doesn't always work even with a new battery).
Anyway, has anyone else had this problem? If so, what was the problem and how much do you think it will cost to fix? I have a shop that works on my vette, but I would like to know what kind of damage this will do to my vette budget (I'd rather be spending the money on mods! ).
My turn signals are doing the same thing. I believe it is the flasher unit that is going bad. It is located behind where the emergency flasher button is. I'm not sure how to replace it.
You may have to reprogram your key fob. That worked on my fobs.
The door lock may be a bad actuator. You can try pulling codes to see if that is a problem.
I tried reprograming the key fob...no luck. It only works if I'm standing on the driver's side right next to the car. By then I could just have used the key itself!
You may have a series of unrelated problems here. It may be a bit of guess work to find them.
Simple one first: Key fob doesn't always work even with a new battery. Try a retrain first which you'll find in the owners manual. Use a strong magnet such as one on the back of a speaker. If that fails, it has been known for the receiver to fail. It's dual function for the TPS sensors and the door lock functions. If not it may be the fob. Does your spare fob work? If one works but not the other it could be a bad fob. You can get replacements on E Bay for not too many $$
blinkers work intermittently. This could be one of two things. Either the hazard switch is going bad or the turn signal switch on the stalk is going bad. If its the T/S switch, try spraying it with electronics cleaner to see if you can clean up the contacts. Some guys have had success that way. If its the hazard switch, try selecting and deselcting when your T/S stop working. If they come back up its the hazard switch. You'll find DIY fixes for replacing either switch.
Driver side door won't unlock all the time. Are both doors affected? If its only one its probably the door module on that side. If its both you may be back to a fob/receiver issue. If its a module, theres a How To posted by Bakersfield that shows how to replace it.
Of course it may just be a battery so thats where I'd start. Random unrelated electrical faults can be the first sign of a battery going dead. I see you have a 2000. If you're still on the original battery you're on borrowed time. The AC Delcos leak and acid can get into the PCM and cause damage. Worth a look under the battery to make sure its hasn't leaked. Pop in new one as a safety measure.
Hope you get to the bottom of it. All are DIY fixable. Hope this helps.
Thanks, I will try the hazard switch and see if that is the problem.
It's only the passenger side door, so it's probably the door module.
As for the battery, it's less than 6 months old...I bought a new one after I my driver side seat motor failed (ran constantly, even when the key was removed) and it killed the original battery . I had the seat motor replaced and the battery replaced.
I had the same issue a year or so--get yourself some plastic safe electronic contact cleaner. Squirt it into the narrow slit between the actual switch and it's housing of the hazzard switch. Activate the hazzard switch for a minute or so- do this two or three times. This will remove the contamination on the hazzard switch causing the turn signals to be intermittment. You may need to do this periodically (like every 6 months or so). I have found that simply activating the hazzard switch w/o any spraying every few weeks for a couple of minutes heads of any issues with the turn signals. Might try it- it's quicker and cheaper than replacing the hazzard switch--good luck!! Ron
I had simular problems. Ireplace the battery (under the hood) & when I removed the old battery (which is now in the beater car working fine) I noticed the cables were not as tight as they should be & there wear spark flash marks on both the post & battery. So..........check the cables to see if they are tight. Also I totally agree with DeeGee about being unrelated. (he is a smart man for a bloody ******......hehe)
IMO it sounds like the hazard flasher I ordered mine from GM parts direct at 23 dollars and some change. I read a post on here awhile back that I followed his directions of removing the radio bezel and ac head unit and stereo was a piece of cake to get out that way took me about 25 minutes. GOOD LUCK
