Leaving NJ to go to the great state of Texas... (Austin area). So fill me in. Do I need a front plate? Is there a State inspection? (I have no Cat's), octane of super unleaded (91 or 93)? What is the best gas station (mobile, chevron, etc...)? Car shows and Cruse nights in Austin? Corvette clubs in Austin? Performance Shops? (or do I need to run to LG up in Dallas?)
Welcome to Texas.
Front plate - supposed to be required, but nobody really cares if you have the filler plate instead.
There is a state inspection however the emissons is done by hooking up to the car's computer.
We get the good stuff 93 octane. Shell/Chevron seem to be the best. Kroger/HEB gas is okay. Avoid Racetrac/Walmart gas (on many occasions is watered down)
I have always used Wal-Mart gas and not one problem. Where you get this "watered down" story????
The event occured with the opening of the Racetrac gas stations. it was reported on Houston news channels and was a few years back. Several owners reported their cars stalling immidiatly after filling up. As far as Wal mart goes, I haven't heard anything gasoline specific, but wal mart gas in general just makes me uneasy....probably an unjustified feeling, but it's there.
Gary,... aka big_G, lives in Austin.
He owns Austin Corvette and is a long time member of the FORUM. He hangs out mostly in the C3 section, but is a Corvette nut through and through.

Welcome to Tejas! Land of no state/local income taxes, 3 of the nation's top 10 airlines, ***** Nelson and plenty of room to drive. Just make sure your A/C is in good shape though.
Stepson just moved to Texas and got a speeding ticket on the first day. It seems the posted speed limit changes at night and he didn't notice, the cop had no mercy.

Just sell it to me and you won't have to worry about taking it to Texas ...when are you moving Frank?

Don't be too generic in lumping Wal-Mart in with those other cut rate places. Wal-Mart, at least in this area, uses Murphy Oil, the largest independent oil company in the country. Should see good products from them.

Since my original post on the subject, I've concluded my skeptical comments on walmart gas were unjustified. As long as i remember while I'm running errands to get a gift card, I can get my 3 cents/gallon discount without the hassle of parking twice....and more importantly leaving my car unattended in a walmart parking lot. (somthing I in very weary of doing and a habit that is justified)
If we're talking discounts, Kroger offers a 3cent/gallon discount if you have a kroger plus card (no folling with buying gift cards every time you want gas)
you also can get a once per month 10-15cent/gallon discount if you spend more than "X" on groceries each month.
